Primarily responsible for leading the design and delivery of solutions and building/ maintaining trusted advisor relationships with clients and prospective clients to ensure they recognize the value Emerson’s Automation Solutions Group delivers. You will lead solution design and implementation activities within multiple large and/or strategic engagements and identify and provide primary support to secure new business opportunities. This position should be focused on creating a portfolio of engagements and building the architecture competencies necessary to meet customer requirements.   The Solutions Architect will apply knowledge of sensing technology, network architecture, software applications, and business processes to design high-value, client-based solutions.  Work with clients and colleagues to develop a deeper understanding of business problems/opportunities and solution needs to define the optimal solution for each client.

  • Maintain an Enterprise Architecture perspective
  • Play a critical role in defining client’s vision, architecture, technology, and operations philosophy, working with Consulting and Business Development
  • Leverage client legacy investments in peripheral, competitive technology, and Emerson’s rich product portfolio to drive optimal client solution
  • Prepare custom functional and technical design specifications
  • Apply deep knowledge of IT/ OT convergence and IT best practices
  • Ensure all technical resources are coordinated for successful specification
  • Support change management initiatives combining people and process considerations Build and manage an engagement portfolio through direct business development and effective management of active engagements and accounts.  Successful execution can be measured with the following framework:

  Position Responsibilities:

  • Practice
    • Develop and lead practice growth initiatives
    • Lead development of IP and present when applicable within target industry focus
    • Actively participate in minimum of 1 open architecture focused organization
  • People
    • Mentor and develop junior staff using the consulting BOK and other company frameworks as appropriate
    • Support and facilitate the continuous education of our practitioner base in technical and consulting skills
    • Support and foster a “TAP” environment of quality for all internal and external work product
    • Support and foster a “business case” environment for all internal and external work product
  • Financial
    • Personal utilization achievement of 40%
    • Lead the support for BDM pursuits as required
    • Always close an engagement out per standard augmented with a team communication to the client educating on recommended next steps
  • Delivery
    • Scope, plan, resource and execute solutions to exceed client’s expectations
    • Lead the architecting of technical solutions for our client’s business issues
    • Manage multiple engagements
    • Provide technical input to all aspects of engagement management including
      • Project management per MRG standards (based on PMI)
      • Financial and risk management (including A/R, A/P, GM achievement, etc.)
      • Contract Management
      • Internal reporting
    • Provide change management leadership to the client to ensure that our work is internalized and adopted effectively

  Essential Skills and Experience:

  • B.S. Engineering or related technical field 
  • Minimum 15 years of relevant professional work experience
  • Superior complex and consultative sales skills with strong negotiations skills
  • Superior knowledge in enterprise architecture and integration practices within and among all levels of the Purdue model
  • Ability to educate junior personnel on integration points and reference architectures
  • Strong understanding of Operational Excellence objectives and practices and the ability to articulate the connection between shop floor data and business performance improvement
  • Project Management Professional Certification (PMP) from PMI
  • Ability to work long hours and travel approximately 80% (primarily domestically, but international travel possible)

Preferred Skills:

  • Master of Business Administration or other related advanced degree
  • Six Sigma green/black belt
  • Advanced certification in cyber security
  • Understanding of analytical techniques and their application to business performance improvement within the Operational Excellence domain
  • Successfully completed a professional complex sales training curriculum
