Job Description Summary:

The Solution Architect is responsible for generating and maintaining architecture artifacts, guidelines, standards and high-level solutions to prepare the work for execution by agile delivery teams. The Solution Architect supports the architecture function and is a member of the Enterprise and Solutions Architecture team. This team will be identifying and defining work that is required in the architectural runway to support future solutions. The members of this team interact and work closely with the product teams and partner organizations to ensure that the solution is positioned correctly, the design is appropriate and will deliver the expected end-user benefits. The Solution Architect ensures that all changes in the organization adhere to our architecture vision, principles and standards. This team is responsible for transitioning solutions, guidelines and principles that can be consumed by the delivery teams, application admins, infrastructure engineers and the data team.


The position is based in Charlottesville, Virginia and will report to the Director, Enterprise & Solutions Architecture.Job Description:

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Contribute to the formation of the enterprise architecture program/function. Promote the business value of the EA program/function and its process, and the results of the EA program to business and IT leaders/executives. Execute the implementation plan for the enterprise architecture based on business strategy and requirements.
  • Design and establish a forward-looking architecture roadmap that incorporates future business needs and changing technology so that our long-term technology solutions can be swiftly developed and easily maintained.
  • Work with IT peers including CISO, CTO, Technical Solutions Managers, and Data Architect to turn architecture vision into developed solutions, including system selections and solution design. Be a member of the Organizational Technical Architecture Group which reviews and approves solution designs. Ensure that all changes in the organization adhere to our architecture vision, principles and standards.
  • Working closely with CTO and Technical Solutions Managers, establish high level solution designs so that features can be prepared for teams and Technical Solution Managers.
  • Contribute to the Architecture and solution principles, standards and processes including working with CTO on coding standards and patterns. Work with CISO on security standards. Work with Technical Architect on Infrastructure and cloud standards.
  • Communicate the Architecture vision, principles and standards across the organization. Make sure this communication can be understood by our business partners as well as those in Technology.
  • Research and be at the forefront of emerging technology and technology trends. Identify new technology or technology shifts that will impact or benefit CFA Institute. Test (R&D) any new ideas or technologies for POC. Integrate new ideas into the overall architecture as it benefits the organization.
  • Deliver and maintain architecture artifacts that can be leveraged by members of Technology, the business and partner organizations as appropriate to communicate the as is and to be state of the enterprise relevant to the solution.
  • Guide and advise stakeholders about disruptive technologies and trends. Work with business peers and lead the identification and analysis of enterprise business outcomes and drivers to derive useful business context, and in response to disruptive forces.
  • Create and deliver high-level solutions for the planned work in a complete and timely manner. Work with IT peers and teams to turn architecture vision into developed solutions, including system selection and solution design.
  • Set Architecture and solution principles, standards and processes including working with CTO on coding standards and patterns.
  • Collaborate with other teams and partners as members of the distributed architecture model which may include: Security Architecture and standards, Information Architecture, Data Architecture, and Infrastructure and cloud standards.
  • Communicate the Architecture vision, principles and standards across the organization. Make sure this communication can be understood by our business partners as well as those on the Technology team.
  • Research and be at the forefront of emerging technology and technology trends. Identify new technology or technology shifts that will impact or benefit CFA Institute. QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's degree in business, computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering, system analysis or a related field of study, or equivalent experience
  • Seven or more years of experience in at least three disciplines, such as business, information, solution or technical architecture, application development, middleware, information analysis, database management or operations in a multitier environment
  • Exposure to multiple, diverse technical configurations and technologies encompassing on premise, IaaS, PaaS, SaaS, IAM, content delivery networks and Applications as a Service i.e. Salesforce and Site Core
  • Experience and sufficient technical knowledge to effectively create and deliver high level technical solutions for the organization.
  • In-depth knowledge of Software Platforms including Salesforce, Sitecore, and NetSuite highly desired. Ability to learn about the existing enterprise and platform capabilities and roadmaps is essential.
  • Knowledge of business models, operating models, financial models, cost-benefit analysis, budgeting and risk management.
  • Familiarity with information management practices, system development life cycle management, IT services management, infrastructure and operations, and EA and ITIL frameworks
  • Knowledge of all components of holistic enterprise architecture.
  • Knowledge of business engineering principles and processes.
  • Familiarity with basic graphical modeling approaches, tools and model repositories
  • Completion of CFA Institute Investment Foundations program is preferred; persons not holding the designation will be encouraged to attain it during the first year in the position

  • Occasional travel to CFA Institute conferences, meetings and events and participation in technical conferences and other learning events.
