HDR is seeking a Senior Solid Waste Engineer with project management capabilities to join our nationally ranked team of professionals. This position may be based in one of our following offices: Vienna, VA; Fulton, MD; or Washington, DC. This senior project management position will serve to support the solid waste program in the Mid-Atlantic, especially for project assignments and marketing efforts related to landfills, transfer stations, recycling facilities and other waste facility projects.
Serve as a project manager and client manager with technical specialization in the area of landfill design, facility design and/or permitting
Effectively manage multi-discipline project teams, work closely with HDR national technical experts. Ensure that all work is planned, organized, controlled and evaluated through a pro-active project management system,
Maintain client satisfaction.
Market and secure new work from existing and potential clients, achieving booking goals
Coordinate the work of professional staff and subconsultants throughout project assignments; perform engineering functions and completing project tasks; coordinate with clients in the execution of work; and participate in reviews with various governing agencies for code compliance.
Additional duties include involvement with other solid waste projects such as system planning studies, economic analysis, and permitting or design of other solid waste facilities.
Coordinates and assists, with affected disciplines, with any addendum, requests for information, change proposal requests and change orders and is responsible to incorporate agreed upon changes into the project documents. On an as-needed basis, may perform field inspection activities and constructioncontract administration support. Candidate must demonstrate leadership experience in taking a project from planning, through design, construction to operations.
Work cooperatively with National Directors and Client Development Leaders in local and national marketing and production efforts. *LI-KY1
Bachelors or Masters Degree in Environmental, Mechanical, Civil or Chemical Engineering or equivalent required.
Professional Engineer (PE) required.
10+ years of solid waste experience, plus project management experience.
Engineering experience in one or more of the following areas is required: slope and seismic stability, geosynthetics, design and QC, leachate management, solid waste facility design, soils properties, construction techniques, piping and pumping systems, preparation of construction documents and engineering estimates.
Strong client and project management skills.
Good communication, leadership, planning and mentoring skills required; proficiency with Microsoft Office. Previous experience with an architectural/engineering or engineering consulting firm a plus.
An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must.

Experience with Virginia, Maryland and/or District of Columbia solid waste regulations preferred.
