Software Team Manager

 

Exciting opportunity to get in on the ground level while team is growing as new trading strategies are developed outside of options market making.  The Software Team Manager will partner with a technical product owner.  The Software Team Manager will need technical chops and eagerness to build great teams and has done this successfully in the past.  Candidates should be able to influence others, mentor, manage performance and continuous improvement.  Candidates should be in a current leadership role overseeing an application development team.  Trading industry experience is not mandatory.

 

We are seeking a Software Team Manager.  This growing team is focused on implementing trading strategies primarily in Futures and Equities products.  As a member of the team, you will develop and lead a team of skilled engineers.  Your team will partner withTraders and Quants to help deliver end-to-end trading systems.

 

Responsibilities:

 

-Ensure the strategic direction of the group is well understood and that each employee understands how their role and personal goals connect to it.

-Regularly solicit feedback from others about the performance of the individuals and the team as a whole, and use that feedback to build a team that is stronger than any one individual.

-Work hard to understand and apply each team member?s strengths to responsibilities where they can do their best work and make the most impact for the team.

-Craft development plans that are tailored to the individual; set up to amplify their strengths and mitigate their weaknesses.  These plans are a match between what the company needs and the career path the individual craves.

-Continually advocate for, and implement changes that improve the productivity, efficiency, and general environment for the development team.

-Reviewing the team's capacity and capabilities is a meaningful activity for you, and is how you drive employee development as well as recruiting.

-Create an environment of psychological safety where all team members are able to voice their opinions, be heard, and influence the company.

-Make technical contributions that enhance team productivity and effectiveness (build and test improvements, automation, etc.).

-At times you will be asked to run projects and efforts that the team is involved in.

 

Qualifications:

 

-Technical experience with one or more of the following languages:  Java, C++, and Python.

-Experience with source control (preferably Git), continuous integration/delivery, automated testing, and software development best practices.

-Prior experience leading a software development team, and a passion for coaching and team development.

-Understand basic project management concepts and can break work down into manageable achievements, and keep the team on track.

-Provide timely and effective feedback that help employees learn and grow.

-Familiar with structured interviewing techniques and can accurately assess the values and abilities of potential additions to our team.

-Motivation is an important coaching practice for you. Understand the difference between intrinsic motivation and extrinsic motivation.

-Balance giving direction versus coaching an employee to find the path for themselves.

-Ability to build trust and influence within the team, the company, and with external partners.

-Experience using contract labor and know how and when to employ it to augment the team.

-Performance management is a topic you take very seriously and approach with urgency when there is a gap.

-It would be helpful but not required if you had experience with distributed Linux trading system development.

-B.S. in Computer Science or related engineering fields.

 

Strategy & Planning:

 

-Collaborate with all staff to ensure smooth and reliable operation of systems and software for fulfilling business objectives and processes.

-Work with team members, decision makers, and stakeholders to define business requirements and systems goals, and to identify and resolve business systems issues.

-Collaborate in strategic and tactical weekly meetings as necessary.

-Builds solutions in collaboration with team members.
