Our Communications Department is looking for an entry-level computer scientist or software engineer who is passionate about networking and communications. As an engineer at MITRE, you will work closely with others in a culture that encourages and values innovation, collaboration, mentoring, and continuous learning. This position will require you to make use of your fundamental understanding of and interest in networking protocols and principles. Your specific duties will vary by project but will generally include performing research, design, analysis, hands-on prototyping, testing, experimentation, and modeling and simulation to address complex questions regarding design, security, and performance of networks that are faced by a variety of MITRE’s customers. Examples of activities you may perform include:

• Perform systems engineering, design, analysis, and experimentation of networks
• Build lab-based testbeds and conduct proof-of-concept experiments
• Model the performance and behavior of networks in enterprise and tactical environments
• Work with cyber and infrastructure automation technologies
• Research emerging technologies and assess applicability to sponsor missions
• Rapid lab prototyping, field testing, technical benchmarking, and modeling and simulation
• Evaluate, validate, integrate, and design new protocols and technologies to meet sponsors missions
• Propose and contribute to R&D initiatives

Required Qualifications:

• B.S. in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field.
• Coursework, experience, or skills in one or more of the areas below:
• Cloud networking fundamentals
• Infrastructure automation and virtualization technologies
• TCP/IP networking fundamentals and related standard networking protocols
• IP routing and layer 2 switching protocols
• Proficiency in one or more scripting or programming languages such as C, C++, Java, or Python
• R&D or analysis interest and experience.
• Ability to acquire and maintain a Top Secret Clearance (U.S. Citizenship required).

Preferred Qualifications:

• Active Top Secret/SCI Clearance with Polygraph preferred.
• Software engineering coursework and experience.
• Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills.
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment.
• Self-motivated to learn emerging technologies and explore new versions of existing solutions.
