The Team

The Diagnostic Software Systems team plays a mission critical role here at Tesla, working at the intersection of Engineering, Manufacturing and Service. Our mission is to develop a scalable software platform that most efficiently diagnoses, fixes and prevents issues in Tesla products. As a part of the Diagnostic Software Systems team, we achieve our mission by:

  • Developing diagnostic software that exercises the hardware to diagnose itsel
  • Providing cloud services to centralize and scale services for diagnostics and automation for all Tesla Manufacturing and Service centers across the world
  • Designing and developing custom tools to automate and simplify diagnostic investigations
  • Centralizing knowledge about issues in our products for machine and user consumption
  • Collecting per-product diagnostic data for reporting and machine learning based automation

The Role

We are looking for a Technician with experience working on utilizing software, and working with cars. In this role, you will be part of a team executing software to help validate its functionality and behavior before we ship it to the Factory or to Service centers around the world. This testing is run on Model S, X and Model 3 vehicles that Tesla builds, and is an essential part of ensuring quality of software going to our factories. 

Responsibilities

  • Run manual and automated black/white box tests, and analyze and report results
  • Perform functional, stress, and performance tests on multiple levels within the system
  • Work with the QA engineers across the team to utilize adopted practices and systems
  • Debug/Triage failures, and try to understand the root cause of what might be causing the failure (what part of the system – HW, SW, Mechanical, etc)

Requirements

  • Associatedegree on electronics or equivalent technical certificate is a plus
  • 2-3years working in a car shop or similar environment is a plus
  • Strong experiencetroubleshooting an electro-mechanical system
  • Skilled at using a variety of hand and portability tools
  • Able to read and interpret basic mechanical drawings and electrical schematics
  • Comfortable using Windows or Mac operating system and running batch scripts
  • Display evidence of safe work practices, being detail-oriented, positive attitude, resourceful, and a thirst for technical software knowledge.
