A software engineer at PICA is a member of the technical team responsible for taking user stories and transforming them into quality software under minimal supervision. He or she is expected to work with the team, customers and testers to take business needs and produce working software


A software engineer practices and teaches the following disciplines:


  • Test driven development
  • Pair programming
  • Continuous integration
  • Incrementally delivering and improving software


The software engineer must be able to create excellent object oriented code in both Java (and other JVM-based languages) and JavaScript(with an emphasis on modern, modular JavaScript applications).


The PICA software development team places an importance on agile development practices and software craftsmanship. We deliver working software incrementally, working closely with our customers, and preferring face-to-face communication. The software engineer will spend his/her day collaborating with team members and customers. This will include sitting in open, collaborative workspaces.


We are committed to evolving our development processes via proven practices like retrospectives, so software engineers must be eager to seek out and try new ways of working within the team.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities


90% - Application Development


  • Turn technical requirements and problems into working software
  • Work with senior staff to implement code that follows best practices and architectual goals


10% - Technical Leadership


  • Work with associate software engineers and grow technical skills and practices for quality software development through project work
  • Review pull requests and provide feedback on code to other developers

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • A minimum of 1-3 years of developing web applications using jvm based languages and modern javascript frameworks.
  • Experience developing in an Agile environment.
  • Any experience developing cross-platform Mobile applications is a plus.
