In this role, you will lead the development of multiple teams for Workplace Solutions business at Morningstar. An ideal candidate would be a self-starter who gets technology as an art, understands business goals and creates scalable, flexible technical solutions. We are looking for great leaders who specialize in Java/JVM platform, AWS, and CICD and who are excited to join our team, grow with us, and introduce new ideas to develop software products. You’d be responsible for improving modern software development practices and will motivate the team and cultivate a culture of high energy and technical excellence. Establishing a good support infrastructure to handle production issues and being responsive to customer problems is essential to the role. Exposure & experience in large-scale system implementation is a big plus. This position is based out of our headquarters in Chicago. 

Key Job Responsibilities

  • Act as the software guardian. Own non-functional requirements, architectural direction, quality of the code and management of technical debt
  • Understand our business, partner and model our core assets into our software systems 
  • Implement an evolutionary and incremental steps across multiple software products
  • Motivate team(s) and create a strong culture of engineering excellence
  • Be able to mentor team members and manage organizational issues including performance calibration and salary reviews
  • Collaborate with local & global teams for both technical and non-technical issues like project management and requirements management
  • Cultivate technical backlog with team leads to upgrade platform continuously
  • Enforce practices like test driven development, CICD, and test automation
  • Analyze & remediate production issues and build in fault tolerance & operational readiness into the system architecture
  • Design for the big-picture: technical roadmap and solutions architecture over short, medium, and long term 


  • Strong experience in object oriented analysis and design, coding and implementation in Java and AWS
  • Experience with CICD, test automation, and key DevOps responsibilities
  • Great understanding of building RESTful APIs and creating SOA applications
  • Managed team(s) of technologists
  • Strong leadership capabilities & excellent communication skills
  • Proficiency with Agile Methodologies
  • Experience in operations and managing live production applications, monitoring, remediation and incident management
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related field
  • At minimum 8-10 years of relevant experience.
