Job summary

As an integral member of the Monterey Bay Aquarium's Technical team, the Software Engineer is responsible for spearheading the planning, architecting, implementation, and maintenance of projects related to the Aquarium's custom enterprise applications. The Software Engineer also provides technical mentorship as well as guidance to other developers.

Core Responsibilities

  • Write clean and maintainable code for both the client and server; mastery of front and backend programming
  • Leverage technologies to create prototypes and then iteratively develop into clean, well-organized software
  • Manage code deployments and release implementations
  • Manage server configurations
  • Manage/monitor system tools for alert and monitoring
  • Participate and contribute in team meetings in an agile environment

Absolutely Required Skills / Knowledge / Ability / Experience or Education

  • B.S. degree in computer science, engineering, or equivalent training or experience
  • Minimum of 5 years full stack software development experience
  • Development experience with cloud infrastructure, especially AWS (Amazon Web Services)
  • Management of virtual servers in the cloud with EC2 (Elastic Computing Cloud) and Amazon RDS (Relational Database Service)
  • Extensive experience with the Microsoft.Net development stack & the C# programming language
  • Experience working with MVC (Model View Controller) and API (Application Programming Interface)
  • Mastery of web browser DOM (Document Object Model) manipulation with JavaScript & JQuery
  • Comfort with common object-oriented design patterns
  • Excellent at completing assigned tasks; attention to detail
  • Demonstrates personal accountability, leadership, teamwork and initiative
  • Able to self-assess progress and reach out to supervisor or other engineers for assistance as needed
  • Ability to demonstrate sound judgment even in ambiguous situations
