We seek a Software Engineer for our Charlottesville, VA location to function as a Back End developer-- working closely with the Web development team, product managers, and marketing to design/develop integrated logic for ExploreLearning's products.

As an ExploreLearning Software Engineer you will develop code, appropriately employing object-oriented design methods and patterns. Solve problems of considerable scope and complexity. Support custom and open source systems and ensure code is designed to operate as expected under extremely high load. Have the ability to debug and research issues independently.

  • Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities: Creates and implements ColdFusion, MS SQL Stored Procedures, and develops solutions in Java with Java/Spring framework
  • Maintain ColdFusion product base
  • Develop new features
  • Diagnose and remediate issues
  • Troubleshoots and resolves software problems
  • Collaborates with employees in technology, marketing, and other departments
  • Work effectively on a small (3-9 person) team
  • Gathers, analyze, and document software functional requirements
  • Required Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science
  • Experience developing web applications
  • 2+ years' experience application database development
  • Familiarity with Java, Java/Spring
  • Demonstrable ability to learn new techniques and frameworks
  • Understands & implements to web standards, accessibility, and usability
  • Self-starter with demonstrated analytical and problem-solving ability
  • Ability to communicate effectively in both verbal and written formats
  • Preferred Skills and Abilities: ColdFusion programming (CFML) a plus
  • Cloud engineering experience a plus.
