What will you do at Ciena?

You will join the growing Blue Planet Analytics team based in Montreal and Ottawa (Canada). Our team is developing an adaptive network driven by Artificial Intelligence that will disrupt the telecommunications industry.

We want to hire professionals who aspire to work on world-class challenges. We will consider junior and senior candidates with skills in data science, software engineering and/or telecommunications. Since we are inventing new products that have never been made before, we are looking for individuals who can learn about new technologies continuously and solve hard problems with minimal guidance.

Responsibilities

  • Develop intelligent data-driven applications for telecommunications use-cases
  • Develop core components of Ciena’s Big Data and Fast Data platform

General Activities

  • Write software, together with unit tests and integration tests
  • Integrate components from open source projects with our home-grown code base
  • Participate in Agile Scrum meetings
  • Celebrate accomplishments!

Collaboration with stakeholders

  • Daily collaboration with software designers, testers and data scientists
  • Co-supervision of co-op students and research students from universities
  • Occasional interactions with management and customers

Areas of impact

  • Product engineering
  • Science, research & intellectual property

Experience

  • Scala, Java or Python programming (other languages an asset)
  • Object-oriented, functional, distributed programming. Algorithmic complexity, scalability.
  • Apache Hadoop, Spark and NiFi ecosystem
  • DevOps (Docker, Kubernetes) and cloud infrastructure (AWS, Azure)
  • Familiarity with telecommunications networks is an asset
  • Familiarity with data science is an asset
