Software Development Supervisor

Job Description

The Digital Transformation & Analytics (DT&A) group provides an effective interface between Pratt & Whitney's Military Engine business and the Pratt & Whitney Information Technology organization. In this role, DT&A is expected to help transform the ME business through the use of software and analytics. This transformation will be conducted by translating business requirements into actionable IT projects, monitoring the execution of these projects, and creating experimental prototypes of these systems to help reduce risk. DT&A also has responsibility for the maintenance and development of specialized data systems needed for a variety of business functions including Forecasting, Tech Data Management, Provisioning, and the acquisition and redistribution of a variety of data associated with Pratt & Whitney's Military Engines. DT&A has been growing rapidly over the last few years and requires additional supervisory staff in order to maintain reasonable levels of oversight and guidance for its employees. Your project management, leadership, and interpersonal skills will be critical in guiding a small (5 to 10) person team in this growing environment. This position is specifically focused on the management of software development within Military Engines with the intent of transforming internal business processes via automation and process improvement. This team is responsible for development of automated workflows, transformation of Access and Excel "databases" into more maintainable/useable forms, and other small scale software development projects. The DT&A organization values an Agile development approach and a heavy emphasis on written documentation.

Some of your responsibilities will include:

  • Your primary responsibility is to provide hands-on interaction with members of the team, providing technical and career guidance in addition to routine administrative functions
  • You will be responsible for guiding this team to the completion of annual roadmap objectives, compliance with ITC, training, and ACE requirements, and successful production of routine deliverables
  • As a leader within the organization you will help harness ACE tools and emerging IT capabilities to improve processes within Military Engines
  • The selected candidate will be expected to demonstrate technical competence and leadership and be able to function as a fully capable member of the team, but also needs to be able to delegate tasks to the staff and enable them to perform effectively
  • Technical capabilities including SQL, Excel, Python, and project management skills will help to understand and assess the work being performed by the team

Do you meet these Basic Qualifications?

  • Bachelor's of Arts or Bachelor's of Science Degree required
  • 5 years as a supervisor of software developers/teams
  • 2+ years experience with Agile software technologies
  • Strong desktop computer skills will be needed as part of this technically focused organization
  • Due to our government contracts, all applicants must be US Citizens

  • Excellent leadership, organization, and interpersonal skills
  • Self-motivated & capable of working independently as well as within a group environment
  • Experience with process and workflow documentation – good communication skills, both written and verbal is preferred
  • A variety of business and technical skills
  • Working knowledge of USAF and USN data collection systems, maintenance processes, and organizational structures are highly valued
  • Relational database development and strong SQL experience preferred
  • Formal training in IT project management (Agile, Waterfall, etc.) would be highly valued
  • Familiarity with P&W engine products
  • Ability to obtain security clearance
