Cal Poly is seeking a Software Developer and a Stack Developer for our ITS Department!
Information Technology Services (ITS) makes it easier for students, faculty, and staff to learn, research, teach, and work by providing great service and innovative information technology solutions. Our team of 115 professionals works in a highly collaborative environment, using Agile methods and Lean principles to shape the technology landscape of Cal Poly. As part of our vibrant campus culture, members of ITS work with talented Cal Poly employees and students to take on impactful, cutting-edge projects and provide superior day-to-day support to our customers. ITS values professional development and provides individual and organization-wide education and training opportunities for our employees.
We're seeking bright, collaborative, and motivated individuals to join our Application Development & Information Management (ADIM) group providing the campus with a variety of services including the support for business intelligence, identity management, data warehousing, database administration, application development, and web content management systems. As the campus begins a migration to Amazon Web Services (AWS), the team will also participate in the migration of applications to the cloud and work with other ITS enterprise teams to integrate services between our campus computing infrastructure and the cloud.
We currently have two open positions that are forward-looking toward current technology integration to make environments and applications more efficient and lower maintenance so that we can work on fun stuff. Using agile and lean approaches, they will apply DevOps strategies to develop methods for continuous integration and deployment, and to build, tune, and secure stack environments and applications in our AWS cloud environment.
Under general supervision, the Software Developer develops and maintains the custom user-facing software that drives the daily life of the campus community. Some of these applications include the My Cal Poly portal, Plan a Student Schedule, 1-Stop Advising, Cal Poly mobile app, and other related systems. We are looking to grow our small development team with bright and creative forward-thinking developers to assist Cal Poly in migrating to an AWS-driven platform using agile development practices and continuous delivery. You will have a unique opportunity to influence our transformation to a modern architecture.
Under general supervision, the Stack Developer provides continuity of DevOps workflow through well documented and integrated processes for deploying system and application updates. This includes developing and maintaining infrastructure, applications and services for the campus community including the enterprise Drupal environment, enterprise search appliance, DocuSign and related systems. Primary activities include developing, implementing, testing, deploying and maintaining various applications supporting academic and administrative computing functions. Emphasis will be placed on managing application updates, releases, and integrations with web services, as well as developing customized modules and code for applications currently in use, such as enterprise content management, electronic signature gathering, URL redirection, and search engine management. Additional emphasis will be placed on major upgrade planning, development, and implementation.
