Software Developer, E-commerce Platform at Square in Toronto, ON

Job Description

The newly formed ECOM Platform teams are tasked with building powerful E-commerce offerings that can be used and leveraged by other teams within Square, as well as third party developers via public API. In 2021 we aim to lay a strong foundation for the future growth of ECOM platform, and are looking for strong front-end and full-stack software engineers who feel comfortable in all parts of the stack - and are also willing to help define the architectural future of ECOM Platform.

We are looking for talented and passionate software developers to join any of our ECOM Platform teams:

ECOM Platform - Foundations

The Foundations team is responsible for building and maintaining the solutions, services, and libraries that will connect the ECOM Platform to the rest of the Square ecosystem (and eventually, to third party developers). On this team, you will:

• Work closely with teams and stakeholders from multiple teams within Square to understand their technical requirements and ensure that we build solutions to meet them
• Help define the architectural foundation and direction that ECOM Platform teams will take to build a strong foundation for future growth
• Build tools and processes to monitor API uptime, response rates, performance, and stability

ECOM Platform - Fulfillments

The Fulfillments team is responsible for making our powerful Fulfillments engine (and the network of couriers we integrate with, such as Doordash and Postmates) available to the rest of Square. As we do this, we’ll also focus on adding new and comprehensive fulfillment functionality to better serve the needs of our customers. On this team, you will:

• Work with third party fulfillment providers to integrate their APIs into our platform in a standardized way
• Help build Fulfillment features directly into Square Online in a way that is extensible and reusable for the ECOM Platform
• Provide powerful and intelligent Fulfillment APIs to the rest of the Square ecosystem

ECOM Platform - Checkout

The Checkout team is responsible for taking the robust checkout offering that powers Square Online today and making it available to any team within Square as a payment processing option.

• Build data layers and transformers to allow our Checkout application to become data-source-agnostic
• Update all aspects of the Checkout flow to follow modern best practices, improving performance, stability, and reliability along the way.
• Work closely with ECOM Product teams to integrate new features and functionality into Checkout to support our sellers

Qualifications

You have:

• 4+ years of front-end, backend or full-stack development experience and an excellent command of engineering fundamentals
• Motivation to build beautiful, refined and intuitive products
• Innate curiosity, a desire to learn and teach, and a keen eye for detail
• Empathy for your customers and colleagues
• Eagerness to share your own ideas, and openness to those of others
• A deep understanding of the importance of performance monitoring, logging, and telemetry
• Experience working with PHP (Preferably PHP 7+), Laravel, or Go
• Experience working with relational databases, with a strong understanding of best practices
