We’re looking for a knowledgeable Software Developer to join our team within State Farm’s Enterprise Technology department as we advance our capabilities focused on helping the organization to protect and better understand one of its most valuable asset -its data. Our Detective Controls team is responsible for monitoring State Farm’s development and test environments for sensitive information and alerting when a potential risk is detected. This is done through the use of two detective controls, Perimeter Monitoring and Data Scanning. Perimeter Monitoring identifies when improper data traffic occurs and Data Scanning searches for actual sensitive data so that it can be addressed. Protecting customer, consumer and associate data is the cornerstone of this work.
Skills/experience:
Familiarity with development tools such as Jenkins, Urban Code, GIT
Intermediate to expert level understanding of databases, data types, and data structures
Familiarity with Hadoop and the Hadoop ecosystem (HDFS, Cloudera Manager, PIG scripting, HUE, Impala, Oozie, YARN, Spark)
Familiarity with Linux (including running PuTTy, navigating the file system / checking services, command line functions)
Comfortable with all steps in the software development methodology
Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
Ability to navigate the organization and collaborate with different teams in different locations
Incumbency
This position will have an 18-month incumbency period, beginning on the effective date of the position, which must be met before the employee can post for any other lateral State Farm position. Employees may be considered for openings for Technology Engineer positions or promotional opportunities into leadership at any time, and into a promotional position within the same job structure after 6 months from the effective date of the position. In these cases, the remaining incumbency would be waived. The incumbency period does not affect the at-will relationship between State Farm and the employee and does not create an employment contract, nor contractual rights.
