Responsibilities

The Systems Performance, Estimation and Algorithms Department (SPEAD) performs algorithm development and evaluation as well as modeling, simulation, and analysis for national security space customers emphasizing missile warning/missile defense, space situational awareness and space security.  The selected candidate will provide software engineering, algorithm development, and analytical support to government customers in the area of space situational awareness (SSA), offensive space control (OSC) and defensive space control (DSC).

 

Key Functions

  • Interact directly with government customers as well as Aerospace program office personnel in the Colorado Springs area and collaborate closely and mostly remotely with ETG and program office personnel in El Segundo, Chantilly, and other locations
  • Provide technical expertise and project leadership in the modeling and analysis of SSA, OSC and DSC systems and their broader system-of-systems architectures with a focus on space protection and defense
  • Develop analysis software tools and conduct a range of analysis through the use of a framework of SSA modeling, simulation and analysis (MS&A) capabilities including in-house, custom and commercially available/government provided modeling tools
  • Compare performance assessments of architecture variants and conduct trade studies on specific sensor capabilities, locations and quantities
  • Provide independent assessments and lead studies with teams of analysts derived from the most capable government/FFRDC/SETA/contractor sources

Qualifications

Required 

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, mathematics, physics, engineering or other related technical discipline
  • 8 years of applicable experience
  • Current Secret clearance with TS/SCI eligibility
  • Exposure to/experience with SSA, OSC and DSC systems and architectures
  • Basic understanding of orbital mechanics
  • Experience in modeling, simulation, analysis, and algorithm development
  • Solid software engineering skills, with ability to program in multiple languages and a strong grounding in at least one of the following: Java, C++, or Python
  • Good interpersonal communication and briefing skills along with ability to work independently and interact effectively with high-level government, Aerospace, and contractor personnel
  • Demonstrated technical leadership ability

 

Preferred

  • Advanced technical degree
  • Current TS/SCI clearance
  • Proficiency in multiple programming languages, including Java and Python
  • Strong technical background in astrodynamics
  • Broad working knowledge of current and planned SSA, OSC and DSC architectures
  • Broad working knowledge of SSA operations, including sensor tasking and scheduling
  • Experience working with one or more of the major government organizations in the mission area including the Space Security and Defense Program (SSDP), Space Superiority Systems Directorate (SMC/SY), Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL), and the Space Threat Assessment Cell (STAC)
  • Experience working in a government program office or other direct customer support role
  • Extensive knowledge of the breadth and depth of ETG's technical capabilities; current customer base with the ability to support from Colorado Springs
