Position Summary

The Social Media Manager is the driving force for promoting Reed Smith’s strategic messaging and thought leadership across the firm’s social media channels. The position is responsible for planning and executing firmwide social media campaigns and supporting decentralized social media activities emanating from practice and industry groups, Diversity & Inclusion, Pro Bono, Human Resources and other parts of the global firm. This role will collaborate with functions across the firm to help harness Reed Smith’s social voice; develop and deploy strategies to enhance engagement, reach and brand; and advise Reed Smith lawyers and others on best practices and firm policies concerning social media. The incumbent will be responsible for day-to-day social media activities: content generation, publishing, monitoring, listening, tracking and reporting. The role requires a detailed understanding of publishing tools, analytics tools and social marketing technology as well as social platforms such as LinkedIn, Twitter and YouTube.

Essential Functions

  • Create: chief content producer for the firm’s social media channels and content generator for other digital marketing efforts, internal and external. Ensure the firm is giving our social media followers the most relevant and engaging content via owned channels. The position requires a deep understanding of social voice, tone and style.
  • Edit: Editorial oversight of the firm’s social media channels. Drive social media campaigns and deploy daily content about the firm’s activities across the firm’s social networks. Oversees the creation and maintenance of profiles across social networks.
  • Engage: Enhance audience engagement by deploying strategies to increase engagement and a measurable ROI while employing industry best practices across the enterprise.
  • Analyze: Track metrics and monitoring conversions, conversations and trends.
  • Amplify: Optimize paid social media products and services that amplify media campaigns.
  • Develop: Create and maintain a social media calendar integrated across PR, Internal Communications, Business Development and other Marketing functions.
  • Monitor: Actively “listen" to the social media community on a daily/weekly basis, analyzing and interpreting results to drive social media campaign optimization. Review client communications to evaluate worthiness and readiness for social media promotion. Review third-party communications on the firm’s social media channels and proposes appropriate response tactics.
  • Collaborate: Liaises with lawyers, marketing and business development staff, and agency resources, as necessary, to source, write, edit and publish marketing content directed to internal and external audiences.
  • Support: Support broader digital marketing initiatives (web, e-communications, video, podcasts, etc.) as a writer, editor and adviser.



Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Journalism, Communications or a related field.


At least 5 years of relevant experience in a marketing role requiring independent work and demonstrated project leadership. Social media marketing experience in a professional services, corporate, government or journalism environment is strongly preferred.


Communications experience leveraging social media for a national or global organization. Strong understanding of how to leverage social platforms (including LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook, YouTubeand Instagram) in marketing campaigns. Hands-on experience in content creation and management, monitoring, listening, tracking and reporting. Able to advise Reed Smith lawyers and other personnel on social media best practices. Experience with CMS and HTML is required. Knowledge of SEO and SEM is strongly preferred. Experience with CRM is a plus. Strong computer skills including knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Ability to work independently. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal. Must have high degree of poise and professionalism when interacting with internal and external contacts. Ability to prioritize workload and solve problems quickly. Must be able to field inquiries and requests from individuals of various levels and escalate potential issues appropriately.
