The Site Reliability Engineer (SRE) is responsible for playing a critical role in ensuring the reliability, scalability, and performance of TRS Information Technology Infrastructure. The incumbent will assist in managing a complex application and infrastructure environment which includes Windows and Linux servers, Microsoft Active Directory, and cloud-based infrastructure such as Microsoft 365. This position will work closely with IT staff and agency employees.

The Site Reliability Engineer Senior (SRE) is responsible for ensuring the reliability, scalability, and performance of our Information Technology Infrastructure. The incumbent will oversee the management a complex application and infrastructure environment which includes Windows and Linux servers, Microsoft Active Directory, and cloud-based infrastructure such as Microsoft 365. This position will work closely with IT staff and agency employees.

This is a Hybrid position and requires 2 days of onsite work a week conducted at our TRS office in Austin TX

This vacancy will be filled at one of two levels - Site Reliability Engineer OR Site Reliability Engineer Senior. Selected applicant will be offered the position that most closely matches their education and experience.

Salary Range
Site Reliability Engineer: $89,286.00 - $111,608.00
Site Reliability Engineer Senior: $108,036.00 - $135,044.00


WHAT WILL YOU DO:

Site Reliability Engineer

Core System and Identity Engineering
• Automates processes and integrations across multiple technologies using Infrastructure-as-code, primarily using PowerShell.
• Collaborates closely with cross-functional teams to design, implement, maintain, and monitor IT infrastructure.
• Provides infrastructure support focusing in areas such as Microsoft Active Directory, Windows and Linux server administration, and Microsoft 365.
• Utilizes source control, continuous integration and delivery, and configuration management processes and tools.

System Support & Maintenance
• Analyzes and diagnoses infrastructure problems.
• Contributes to the assessment of future information technology requirements and participates in developing long-range, comprehensive infrastructure planning and roadmaps.
• Assists in the installation, configuration, monitoring, and maintenance of the IT infrastructure.
• Collaborates closely with cross-functional IT teams and agency staff to establish and sustain scalable, reliable, and high-performing systems, ensure infrastructure security, and consult with teams to identify necessary tasks for supporting project initiatives.
• Monitors applications and systems for compliance with licensing agreements and system availability.
• Contributes to the planning, organization, coordination, and occasionally leads special projects.
• Research developments in the site reliability engineering field including emerging technologies and trends, and then recommends processes and tools to help continuously improve processes and procedures to deliver business value.
• May be required to be available for on-call duty or scheduled for after-hours work.
• Performs related work as assigned.

Site Reliability Engineer Senior

Core System and Identity Engineering
• Designs and automates processes and integrations across multiple technologies using Infrastructure-as-code, primarily using PowerShell.
• Collaborates extensively with cross-functional teams to create, implement, maintain, and monitor IT infrastructure.
• Provides advanced support and expertise in infrastructure focusing in areas such as Microsoft Active Directory, Windows and Linux server administration, and Microsoft 365.
• Demonstrates expertise in utilizing source control, continuous integration and delivery, and configuration management processes and tools.

System Support & Maintenance
• Demonstrates expertise in analyzing and diagnosing infrastructure problems proficiently.
• Leads the assessment of future information technology requirements and contributes to developing long-range, comprehensive infrastructure planning and roadmaps.
• Assists in the installation, configuration, monitoring, and maintenance of the IT infrastructure.
• Leads collaboration with cross-functional IT teams and agency staff to establish and sustain scalable, reliable, and high-performing systems, ensure infrastructure security, and consult with teams to identify necessary tasks for supporting project initiatives.
• Monitors applications and systems to ensure compliance with licensing agreements and system availability.
• Leads planning, organization, coordination, and implementation of special projects.
• Research and stays informed about advancements in the site reliability engineering field including emerging technologies and trends, and then recommends processes and tools to help continuously improve processes and procedures to deliver business value.
• May be required to be available for on-call duty or scheduled for after-hours work.
• Performs related work as assigned.

WHAT WILL YOU BRING

Required Education
• Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in engineering, computer science, IT or a closely related field.
• High school diploma or equivalent and additional full-time work experience in information systems, computer operations, programming, database development, or a similarly related technical experience may be substituted on an equivalent year-for-year basis.

Required Experience
• Three(3) years of full-time directly related, progressively responsible experience in site reliability engineering or similarly related experience.(Intermediate)
• Five (5) years of full-time directly related, progressively responsible experience in site reliability engineering or similarly related experience.(Senior)
• Proven ability to develop, maintain, and use automated processes and tools to provide reliable IT infrastructure.
• Experience may be concurrent
• A master's degree or doctoral degree in a directly related field may be substituted on an equivalent year-for-year basis.

Required Registration, Certification, or Licensure
• None

Preferred Qualifications
• Working knowledge of automation engineering using PowerShell.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft 365.
• Experience with DevOps, Agile, ITIL methodologies and practices.
• Experience collaborating with business, development, and operational teams to support Agile project delivery.
• Possession of one or more of the following certifications: Microsoft 365 Certified: Windows Server Hybrid Administrator Associate, Fundamentals, Messaging Administrator Associate, or Information Protection Associate

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of:
• The practices, principles, and techniques of core infrastructure for support of the IT infrastructure stack using automation and monitoring.
• Microsoft Enterprise technologies such as Microsoft 365, Active Directory, Windows Server, Exchange Online, and PowerShell.
• Current hardware and software architectures, network protocols, and security best practices.
• The practices, principles, and techniques of infrastructure as code.

Skills in:
• Analyzing problems and devising effective solutions.
• Communicating complex technical information to people of varying technical backgrounds.
• Planning, organizing, and coordinating work to effectively meet frequent and/or multiple deadlines; handling multiple tasks simultaneously; and managing conflicting priorities and demands.

Ability to:
• Establish and maintain harmonious working relationships with co-workers, agency staff, and external contacts.
• Work effectively in a professional team environment.
