Puprose:

Responsible for all aspects of Plant Operation and Maintance, works in conjunction with Commerical Ops for the efficient dispatch of the units. Responsible for maintaining a competent, well-trained staff. Responsible for training, plant safety, environmental compliance, policy administrion, and has purchasing authority for required materials and services. Responsible for the recommissioning of the plant to ensure the safe return to service. Maintain good relationship with customers and the community. Responsible for supporting and exectuing Gas Plant Strategy in a a dynamic financial climate.

Note: The Gregory Plant has GE 7FA combustion turbines with heat recovery steam generator (HRSG)

Essential Duties / Responsibilities:

  • Ensure safe operation and environmental compliance of power plant equipment
  • Promotes productivity and teamwork with open communication, timely decision making, and use of leadership skills to set high standards of performance, while providing the direction necessary to achieve performance
  • Promotes and supports the development of technical leadership and business skills of employees to carry out responsibilities in a competitive environment
  • Provides regular feedback to employees on their performance to allow them to capitalize on their strengths and focus on opportunities for improvement
  • Creates and supports an organizational culture that encourages and rewards employee involvement, innovative thinking, adaptation to change, responsiblerisk taking, customer focus, and continuous improvement
  • Formulates appropriate strategies which support the overall NRG strategy and manages development, implementation and execution of assigned area goals, objectives, and initiatives
  • Manages all business aspects of assigned area to maximize competitive position of the plant including operational performance, staff development and cost management
  • Ensure operational aspects of work management process are effective
  • Ensure reliability based maintenance planning process is effective
  • Prepares site budgets with focus on Operations and Maintenance
  • Supports outage execution to ensure safe, productive, and cost effective outages
  • Reviews organizational performance with constituents and addresses opportunities for improvement on a regular basis
  • Support continual improvement and operational excellence trhough the following programs:

    • Environmental Compliance
    • Conduct of Operations
    • Alarm Management
    • Root Cause Analysis
    • Reliability Centered Maintenance
    • Cycle Chemistry Monitoring and Improvement

    • Operator Driven Reliability

  • Manages, as necessary, the evaluation and selection of external service providers.
  • Manages work performed by external service providers in support of organizational objectives and responsibilities
  • Assigns work and holds employees accountable for their performance
  • Develops and maintains professional relationships with organizations external to the plant
  • Ensures that appropriate technical expertise related to assigned area of responsibility is available and provided to constituents in a timely manner.
  • Manages development and execution of appropriate standards, guidelines, programs, and procedures within assigned area of responsibility
  • Uses and maintains technical and professional knowledge, shares that knowledge with others, and recognizes/applies new technology in a cost effective manner
  • Obtains and applies knowledge of competitive business practices in daily work activities and decision making
  • Seeks and understands the organizational needs and focuses on meeting and exceeding these requirements
  • Willing to do whatever it takes to get the job done consistent with our NRG values.

Working Conditions:

  • Normal office environment and/or power plant environment.
  • Requires operation of a motor vehicle; Texas Driver’s License.
  • Work overtime and non-standard working hours as required
  • Requires occasional travel outside service area
  • Occasionally requires wearing personal protective safety equipment (respirators, safety glasses, hard hat, appropriate footwear, ear plugs, etc.)
  • May be required to work around rotating and energized equipment, hazardous materials and chemicals
  • Requires operation of a personal computer

Minimum Requirements:

  • Minimum of Bachelors degree in an Engineering or related technical discipline, and 10 years of equivalent experience in a related technical field; or a minimum of 14 years experience in a related technical field
  • Demonstrated record of successfully leading/supervising employees in a related field
  • Ten plus years of power plant experience

Preferred Requirements:

  • MBA preferred
  • Strong working knowledge of GE 7FA combustion turbines with heat recovery steam generator (HRSG)
  • Strong project management with experience in commissioning equipment

Pysical Requirements:

  • Requires standing, sitting, walking, kneeling, twisting, climbing stairs and laddres, and entering plant equipment to access, inspect, or collect data on plant equipment
  • Occasionally requires lifting as appropriate to perform duties and responsibilities
