Job Description:

In order to be successful as a BU/GM at MKS, you must have a very strong customer focus. You must be a leader who exhibits managerial courage with a strong sense of urgency. The ability to successfully work across a matrixed organization is key, with an effective ability to influence others.
Reporting to the Vice President & General Manager of Ophir Products, this position is accountable for:

  • Customer satisfaction for Products
  • Financial performance of the Products Group – P&L and Return on Assets
  • Leadership of the Logan, UT site
  • New Product definition and technology research and development Engineering, life cycle management, and product management of Beam Profiler products

Job Requirements :

  • Meet customer expectations for product performance – including quality and reliability
  • Customer visits with Sales is required
  • For the product management and engineering / development resources for that product line.  Other resources are centralized (corporate level) with dotted line relationships to the GM – including Operations, Sales/Marketing, Service, Quality, Finance, IT, Legal and HR. 
  • Development and executing on the technology roadmap to meet customer needs and market requirements using direct customer input and reviews
  • Manage research and development of technology
  • Management of product life cycle including planned release, pricing, obsolescence, and development of replacement products
  • Setting and implementing the overall product line strategy – with the objective of gaining market share and margin
  • Meeting corporate objectives for:
  • Profitability
  • Growth
  • Market Share
  • Cost control inclusive of Op Ex allocation
  • Preparation for and participation in various management meetings such as Monthly Business Reviews, Sales and Forecast meetings, Technical Operation meetings, Quality meetings and the Office of the CTO, May require interaction with the Board of Directors (highest level managers)
  • Participation in appropriate trade shows


  • Strong demonstrated understanding of the market, products and technology
  • Direct laser and/or Photonics industry experiencerequired
  • Proven issue resolution skills including recognition of issues and knowledge/direction in the resolution, along with the Quality and Ops groups
  • Strong leadership and communications skills, experience in communication up, down and throughout the organization
  • Drive through influence and relationship building
  • Extensive experience interacting with customers and within cross-functional or matrix organizations
  • Ability to teach others
  • B.S. degree as a minimum – advanced technical degree and MBA highly desirable
  • 15+ years of experience in the area of high tech design and manufacturing
  • 5+ years direct P&L responsibility or equivalent
  • Appetite for continuous learning
  • Travel approximately 25-40%, including international travel
