Silicon Photonics Chip Designer
As part of the R&D Silicon Photonics chip design team in the High-Speed Photonic Component (HSPC) organization at Ciena Québec, your role will consist of designing, validating and characterizing Silicon Photonics chips for high-speed transmitters and receivers taking into account the performances, cost and reliability requirements. You will be involved in the product development, including prototyping and testing of modules integrating silicon photonic chips. You will also be supporting the transfer to production of chip designs and work closely with our internal operations team and our manufacturing partners.
Roles and Responsibilities:
-Design, validate and test passive and active Silicon Photonics devices for high-speed transmitters and receivers according to the target performances, cost and reliability requirements;
-Participate actively in the design of prototypes and products based on the Silicon Photonics platform;
-Interact closely with our fab partners for wafer design, production and delivery;
-Document the design and test results, participate in design review meetings;
-Characterize Silicon Photonics chips and associated devices and supervise technical staff involved;
-Support the transfer to production of chip designs in collaboration with our operations team and manufacturing partners;
-Interact with different members of the HSPC group, internal R&D groups, operations, procurement, customers, manufacturing partners and suppliers;
-Monitor, document and communicate advancements and raise potential issues that may have influence on target specs, schedule and budget.
Required Qualifications / Profile:
-A Master or Ph.D. in optics, physics, physics engineering, or related discipline with a minimum of 3 years of experience. Your studies have ideally been related to the field of Silicon Photonics;
-You have a good experience in the design of Silicon Photonics components and circuits, including both passive and active devices such as photodiodes, modulators, spot size converters, etc.;
-You have a good knowledge of simulation tools such as Lumerical EME, DEVICE & FDTD, RF simulation tools, Matlab, etc.;
-Hands-on experience relating to characterization of Silicon Photonics integrated components and circuits including RF test methods for active devices;
-You must be rigorous, be well organized and structured, have sense of initiative and a strong desire for innovation and complex problem solving;
-Team player with ability to clearly communicate (synthesis) in a proactive and solutions-focused manner;
-Excellent communications skills in English and French (written and oral).
