RK&K is seeking a motivated, innovative Senior Water Resources Project Engineer to join our team in Washington DC or Fairfax VA. As a Water Resources Project Engineer you will be working alongside Project Managers and other engineering staff on a variety of drainage, flood management, stormwater management, stream and wetland restoration, and erosion control designs, preparation of contract documents, construction cost estimates and studies on a variety of projects throughout the Mid-Atlantic region.
Basic Responsibilities:
- Work in a collaborative team environment on a range of stormwater, green infrastructure, drainage, flood management, and stream projects
- Prepare technical reports and conduct alternative and feasibility studies
- Prepare computations and analyses in support of various designs
- Design and analyze stormwater management best management practices (BMPs), Design erosion and sediment control
- Prepare environmental permit drawings, construction plans, specifications, and cost estimates
- Analyze floodplains, culverts, and channels utilizing HEC-RAS in compliance with FEMA and local regulations
- Conduct hydrology and hydraulics analysis for culverts, bridges and other floodplain studies
- Perform scour analysis
- Participation in client meetings
- Procurement permits and approvals from local and Federal regulatory agencies
- Heavily use MicroStation and other CADD software
- Coordinate simultaneous tasks/projects with interdisciplinary team
- Perform field investigations to collect data; take field measurements, photographs, sketches; verifying surveys; and identifying field changes
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Science degree from an ABET-accredited Civil Engineering or Environmental Engineering program
- Professional Engineering license
- Minimum of 5 years experience in stormwater management design, drainage design, hydraulic modeling, and/or stream restoration design
- Knowledge of local (DC/MD/VA) stormwater management and Chesapeake Bay TMDL regulations
- Knowledge of local (DC/MD/VA) erosion and sediment control
- Proficiency with MicroStation and GIS
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office software
- Detail oriented and strong work ethic
- Passion for client service, collaboration and teamwork
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Preferred Qualifications:
- Stream restoration or Rosgen training
- Terrain and pipe system conveyance modeling experience (Inroads/OpenRoads, Civil 3D, EPA SWMM)
- One- and two-dimensional hydraulics experience using HEC-RAS or SMS/Tuflow
- AutoCAD/Civil 3D
- Knowledge of DC/MD/VA and USACE wetland & waterway permitting and other local regulatory requirements
- Experience in bridge hydraulics and scour (HEC 18 & Abscour), analyzing large-scale watershed hydrology (using DC/MD/VA methodology), stream restoration design or culvert evaluation
- Experience using AutoCAD and / or Geopak
