MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

The candidate for the position of Senior UC Engineer must meet the following qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as computer science, computer information systems, etc., or equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Minimum of five years of experience in information technology or higher education.
  • Proven experience supporting large-scale telephony implementations and upgrades and delivering reliable and quality service within a higher education environment.
  • Direct, hands-on experience with network transport, design, planning, and implementation.
  • Strong knowledge of voice applications and unified communications (UC) service networks, including network appliances (e.g., unified communications managers, voice switches, media gateways, routers, load balancers, and firewalls).
  • Proven experience with service management, asset management, and billing tools (e.g., ServiceNow, Pinnacle).
  • Knowledge of video conferencing, telepresence, and web conference solutions.
  • Strong collaboration, communication, and technical documentation skills.
  • Proven experience with PBX, voicemail, call center management, and carrier services (e.g., Avaya Communications Manager, 2nd Nature, Avaya Aura messaging, Frontier Centrex Manager, AT&T Centrex Manager).
  • Ability to assess the criticality of problems and prioritize actions based on importance and urgency.
  • Ability to develop positive working relationships and a strong rapport with team members.
  • Experience presenting ideas and solutions in non-technical, business-friendly terms.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The ideal candidate for the position of Senior UC Engineer has the following qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as computer science, computer information systems, etc.
  • More than eight years of experience in information technology or higher education.

THE WORK YOU WILL DO

The Senior UC Engineer develops unified communication solutions for the university. This involves developing best-in-class standards and advising on existing and emerging communications technologies. The Senior UC Engineer is also responsible for coordination of engineering and technical support for infrastructure and services to ensure that systems are operating at peak efficiency. As a member of ITS, the Senior UC Engineer demonstrates ITS values in action.

Job Accountabilities

The Senior UC Engineer:

  • Works collaboratively with ITS and campus departments to deliver highly reliable unified communications services. Creates and maintains detailed written documentation. Shares experience and subject matter expertise with other ITS staff through written and oral presentations. Provides timely communications to stakeholders, technical staff, and management as required.
  • Collaborates with team members to establish project plans, schedules, and priorities. Participates in the development, implementation, and maintenance of policies, procedures, and associated training plans for unified communications administration, operation, and disaster recovery.
  • Supports the delivery of new unified communications services to all USC customers. Enables resources to efficiently and effectively resolve communications issues. Consults with campus departments to determine the suitability of devices in accordance with approved policies and procedures.
  • Facilitates innovation and continuous improvement by leveraging the latest industry knowledge and maintaining currency with new technologies. Stays informed of new developments in unified communications by reading journals and other pertinent publications, communicating with vendors, and participating in professional organizations, meetings, conferences, seminars, and training courses.
  • Designs, configures, troubleshoots, and maintains university telephony equipment across multiple brands. Ensures that enterprise objectives are met through monitoring, timely service restoration, diagnostics, and tuning.
  • Anticipates challenges and changing business needs and develops mitigation and remediation plans to address impact. Analyzes data to both proactively and reactively resolve issues. Works with industry experts and vendors to find and implement effective applications of technology to resolve complex vendor-specific problems.
  • Contributes to an inclusive environment that values differences by building and maintaining collaborative relationships with team members, peers, and ITS leaders.
