The Senior Systems Developer ('SSD') acts as one of the main developers for all internal and external development efforts for the Sanctions Technical Projects ('STP') team. The individual can identify, understand, document as needed and develop solutions for business requirements, internal team requirements and other development efforts as needed. The SSD will lead or participate heavily in the system design portion of projects and be responsible for developing the Computer System Design ('CSD') documentation. The SSD will also have the responsibility of analyzing and understanding existing code and programs that have been developed and provide suggestions on where items can be decommissioned, enhanced or otherwise revisited. The SSD participates in all phases of the systems development life cycle – from project scoping, planning and requirements definition to issues resolution, testing, training and implementation.

Planning and Organization:

  • Review business requirements documents for completeness, clarity, assumptions, issues, etc.
  • Provide estimates on number of hours required for completion of tasks and code
  • Work closely with assigned Project Manager to provide plan for execution of software design, development, testing and implementation
  • Identify technical opportunities and risks to improve the overall quality and resiliency of applications in partnership with other application developments team members

Communication and Leadership:

  • Communicate technology best practices and strategy
  • Communicate effectively with management, senior management, business users and fellow Systems team members
  • Liaise with Lead Developer to understand and (where needed) document existing systems
  • Ensure technology requirement and challenges are resolved in a consistent and timely manner
  • Conduct technical research and provide recommendations
  • Guide and provide training to other team members

Development and Execution:

  • Participate in implementation of changes, enhancements and newly developed programs
  • Develop unit and integration tests that thoroughly exercise logic to ensure application functionality and performance are in line with business requirements
  • Provide level two and three support of the Fircosoft applications
  • Code and test changes to programs and their associated components including (but not limited to) screens, services, modules, queries, and stored procedures
  • Create and execute test cases and scripts for testing of new code releases. Ensure functionality of product meets with business requirements and expectations
  • Own the production turnover request process, documentation and meetings
  • Design solutions that are fit for purpose, sustainable, and utilize as much core system functionality as possible

Product Management:

  • Coordinate and support communications surrounding both systems and user acceptance testing for assigned project(s)
  • Identify and eliminate miscommunications between business and technical project team members
  • Participate in walk-throughs which review program specifications, source code, and all technical supporting documentation, including screens/reports. Provide feedback in accordance with team standards and guidelines

Qualifications, Experience and Education:

  • Bachelors' degree in computer science or other engineering discipline
  • 5+ years of experience in functional and object-oriented design and development utilizing Java
  • Minimum of 4+ years of technical experience in the architecture, design and development of mission critical applications utilizing a wide range of technologies and vendor platforms to service the business needs. Master /Advanced degree may be substituted for experience
  • 3+ years of design and development of high performance messaging and transaction processing systems preferably in the financial or telecom industries
  • Strong knowledge of architectural principles, frameworks, design patterns and industry best practices for design and development
  • Strong Experience with Unix platforms
  • Solid knowledge of Oracle database environments and systems
  • Proven track record of modifying, developing and understanding JAVA systems (new or existing)
  • Proven experience in data analysis, defining and documenting business requirements and performing traceability of all relevant documentation
  • Expert analytical skills. Ability to critically evaluate the information gathered from multiple sources, decompose high-level information into details, abstract up from low-level information to a more general understanding, and distinguish solution ideas from requirements
  • A self-starter and team player that is assertive, independent and can manage multiple responsibilities without close supervision
  • Experience working with a distributed team

Other Skills (Nice to Have):

  • Fircosoft experience a big plus
  • Compliance product or Risk Management experience a plus
  • Experience with message queue brokers (WebSphere MQ, Oracle AQ)
  • Prior experience with Tomcat
  • Prior experience with IBM WebSphere products (WebSphere Application Server, WebSphere Portal, WebSphere Liberty Profile)
