We have an excellent opportunity for a System Engineer for our Intrusion & Monitoring Solutions business in Costa Mesa, CA. The successful candidate will possess strong technical skills to analyze customer requirements, create system designs, prototype proof of concept solutions, work with engineers to ensure detailed component design meets customer requirements, and provides expert system knowledge to Quality Assurance to ensure products meet specification. The System Engineer works directly with the customer to explain technical features and evangelize products and technologies. Products and technologies include security panels, touchscreens, sensors and othersecurity related devices and services.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Interact with product management, marketing, sales, and customers to identify and distill requirements into specifications for successful products releases
  • Create system design and interface specifications
  • Review verification plans and test cases to ensure product is tested to meet specifications
  • Create proof of concept prototypes and work with engineers to ensure technical risks are reduced early in development
  • Technical bridge between Product Management and design teams. Provide technical guidance to engineers during entire new product development life cycle to ensure product meets customer requirements
  • Be a subject matter expert for Interlogix products and services
  • Derive system requirements to determine acceptable functional and performance metrics accounting for both customer and manufacturing needs
  • Leverage existing and seek out new development partners and/or leverage Other Vendor Products (OVPs) as needed to meet project needs
  • Participate in and contribute to trade-off analyses leading to the selection of technologies and design solutions which account for both current and future needs
  • Exhibit a flexible disposition by contributing to various engineering tasks and projects in support of the team including new product development, sustaining engineering, value engineering, documentation, and troubleshooting
  • Act as a trusted expert in the systems engineering and robust design discipline for the broader product development organization
  • Perform technology scouting; identify new technologies and trends and bring them in house or partner with experts to demonstrate feasibility in Security products
  • Drive process improvements, share industry best practices, and help to develop the System Engineering discipline in the organization


Qualification:

  • 10+ years of experience in firmware development including design, implementation, specification, documentation and quality assurance; Includes with RTOS and without RTOS
  • Demonstrated experience with system requirements and design on multiple embedded system product developments
  • Working knowledge of hardware, firmware, software, wired/wireless communications and systems integration including but not limited to MCU architectures: PIC, Renesas, ARM Cortex-M, Epson 8-bit or 16-bit
  • Working knowledge of hardware development including schematics, PCB layout, environmental testing and creating hardware prototypes
  • Must be able to translate high level requirements into detailed technical requirements both functional (internal/external VOCs) and non-functional (Performance, Safety, Security, Reliability) requirements
  • Experience with design processes and driving trade off decisions on key technical selections
  • Working knowledge of Regulatory Compliance (e.g., FCC, UL, CAN ICES, RoHS, etc.)
  • Strong familiarity with system definition, configuration management and defect management tools
  • Must have knowledge of Microsoft Windows-based operating systems and elements
  • Must be self-motivated and results-oriented

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering discipline or Computer Science
