The Senior Systems Engineer is responsible for the design, maintenance, and administration of a variety of enterprise Windows servers and applications. The position requires an individual who can handle the implementation of multiple projects while working with other groups in IT and across the enterprise. This individual must work on complex issues where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of variable factors. This person must also network with key contacts outside their own area of expertise for issue identification & resolution.


  • Engage in design, implementation, testing, and deployment of new operating systems, software, and cloud technologies
  • Provide technical direction to IT staff
  • Work with vendors to provide hardware and software recommendations and procurement
  • Installing and maintaining Windows servers and all related infrastructure, including backup/restore, security policies and virus protection, tuning, capacity planning, and monitoring of all resources to ensure high availability of all services provided
  • Implementing, responding, and tuning server monitoring and alerting
  • Research on software and hardware to provide recommendations on current and future systems
  • Support for Office 365 stack, including Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, Skype for Business, and Teams
  • Support for Active Directory, SQL, IIS, File & Print servers, and both custom and COTS
  • Deployment and support of VMware vSphere hosts & VMs
  • System security and integrity of data and computing resources
  • Escalation for internal customers and IT Staff
  • Promote and maintain server patch management practices
  • Monitors capacity and performance
  • Develops scripts for automation utilizing PowerShell
  • Manage and participate in projects as assigned, and work with team members across the company to deliver project goals
  • Research and evaluate new technologies and present recommendations and justifications on hardware and software purchases
  • Provide mentoring and cross-training to other IT staff in areas of expertise
  • Other duties that may be assigned or requested

Key Qualifications and Required Skills:

  • Minimum of 6 years' experience in related field
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or other related technical discipline is preferred
  • SCOM & SCCM administration experience highly desirable
  • Solid understanding of networking, Active Directory/LDAP, Group Policy, WMI and PowerShell scripting
  • Familiarity of Office 365 and Azure core technologies
  • Solid knowledge of virtualization
  • Experience with storage (SAN/NAS)
  • Ability to multitask and comfortably work on multiple projects at once
  • Ability to adapt to change and work well under pressure
  • Willingness to accept and share new ideas and participate in a team environment
