Summary
The Senior Systems Engineer will use their knowledge of engineering and IT disciplines to design computer systems for the business. This position provides the highest-level support and make recommendations to improve performance through hardware and software upgrades. Supports Active Directory, AWS, Hypervisors ESX and XEN (XCP-NG), oversees system securities and various networking devices including but not limiting to Cisco, PfSense, Mellanox, Kemp, etc. The Senior Systems Engineer will oversee installation, configuration, maintenance, and support of our standard hardware/software technology
Key Responsibilities
- Provide analysis of current infrastructure and recommends upgrades and changes for future growth
- Administer the installation and management of the network infrastructure.
- Responsible for network security and devices (IPSIDS, Firewall, Endpoints)
- Oversee the installing, configuring, and testing of operating systems, application software, and system management tools
- Ensure that all computer systems and infrastructure are operating at the highest levels of availability
- Provide technical direction to IT support staff
- Write custom scripts to reduce the need for human intervention
- Configuring, debugging, and supporting multiple infrastructure platforms
- Lead efforts towards storage consolidation and cleanup
- Lead in the researching of new technology solution
- Develop and maintain platform life cycle management methodology
- Performing high-level root-cause analysis for service interruption recovery and creating preventive measures
- Provides on the job training and coaching less experienced staff members and interns as designated by manager
- Mentor and provide guidance to the Systems Engineer
- Perform cost-benefit and return on investment analyses for proposed systems to aid management in making implementation decisions
- Conduct research on software and systems products to justify recommendations and to support purchasing efforts
- Interact and negotiate with vendors, outsourcers, and contractors to secure system-related products and services
- Other duties as assigned by management
Minimum Experience, Education and Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related field
- In lieu of a degree, a minimum of four years related experience working with operating system hardware and/or software components in a large IT environment with many categories of devices, infrastructures and operating systems may be accepted.
- 5+ years' experience in managing enterprise network and security
- 5+ years' experience in Microsoft Windows 2016 Active Directory
- 5+ years' experience working with Linux, AWS Cloud, and Linux OS
- Proficient at virtualization platforms such as VmWare, Xen, and KVM
- Strong Knowledge of various Open Source platforms
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Excellent leadership, analytical, communications and interpersonal skills are essential
- Strong networking knowledge (OSI network layers, TCP/IP, DHCP, DNS)
- Experience in Cloud technology, preferably AWS
- Organization skills and ability to work on multiple projects and/or assignments simultaneously
- Ability to adapt to new situations and learn quickly
- Strong project management skills
- Ability to conduct research into systems issues and products as required
- Highly self-motivated and directed, with keen attention to detail
- Ability to work in a team-oriented, collaborative environment
