Basic Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in systems engineering, a related specialized area or field is required (or equivalent experience) plus a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience; or Master's degree plus a minimum of 6 years of relevant experience. Agile experience preferred.

Department of Defense Secret security clearance is required with the ability to obtain TS/SCI within 24 months of hire. Active TS/SCI is preferred. Applicants selected will be subject to a U.S. Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Due to the nature of work performed within our facilities, U.S. citizenship is required.

Responsibilities for this Position

General Dynamics Mission Systems has an immediate opening for a Senior Systems Engineer. This position provides an opportunity to further advance the cutting-edge technology that supports some of our nation's core defense/intelligence services and systems. General Dynamics Mission Systems employees work closely with esteemed customers to develop solutions that allow them to carry out high-stakes national security missions.


  • Develops and coordinates functional, environmental, operational, and/or performance tests on hardware, software, and systems
  • Assists with the design, development and implementation of cost-effective methods of testing and troubleshooting of hardware, software and systems
  • Prepares test and diagnostic programs, designs test fixtures and equipment including models and simulations
  • Isolates and documents issues and defects
  • Supports the generation of technical engineering products by applying the appropriate government standards, processes, procedures, and tools throughout the system development life cycle
  • Write detailed functional specifications that document the systems development process and support hardware and software introduction
  • Performs requirements analysis, requirements definition, requirements management, functional analysis, performance analysis, system design, detail trade studies, systems integration and test (verification), validation and interface definition studies of system, subsystem or system elements with minimal supervision of the lead systems engineer
  • Guides the successful completion of major programs and projects
  • Works without appreciable direction
  • Works on advanced applications that may result in new business for the company

The successful Senior Systems Engineer will have many of the following:

  • Effective experience with test engineering concepts, principles, and theories
  • LINUX test experience within a lab environment
  • Experience with the maintenance and update of relevant system process documentation and develop ad-hoc reports as needed
  • Experience with object oriented programming, system processes and scripting languages in a LINUX environment Working technical knowledge of UNIX/LINUX and windows operating systems commands and utilities
  • Well versed in IT government security accreditations and certification DCID 6/3, ICD 503, NISPOM, NIST, DIACAP, RMF and other approved government IT security standards, policies and directives
  • Agile Experience
  • Demonstrate good communication skills, written and spoken and be capable of presenting technical concepts to audiences of various technical abilities
  • The ability to think creatively and communicate their ideas effectively
  • Strong technical and managerial contributions, including collaboration with multiple functional areas
