Senior Systems Engineer

Position Summary:
Data Intensity’s System Engineering team is responsible for the engineering and architecture of all server, virtualization, operating systems, and related infrastructure for the company’s internal IT systems and hosted cloud offerings. The team is also responsible in a professional services role to offer expertise into its customers’ environments. The Senior Systems Engineer is responsible as part of a larger to team to provide through leadership and ownership of the Data Intensity hosting operating systems, virtualization stacks and supporting applications. This position also acts as an escalation point to 24x7 Systems Operation team, as well as our implementation teams.
 
Responsibilities

    Design, implement, and document server build processes and operating system standards
    Design, implement, and document cloud infrastructure using Oracle VM, VMware, and Hyper-V
    Provide thought leadership on processes and technologies related to development operations and release engineering, including automation and integration
    Contribute to the technology roadmap of the company
    Prepare technical design and implementation documentation
    Act as a point of escalation for administration personnel on critical technical issues
    Act in a trusted advisor role for Data Intensity customers, and offer expertise into their Infrastructure.
    Train junior team members and other teams

    Linux systems administration and design (Red Hat/Oracle/CentOS)
    Virtualization (VMware/Oracle VM/Xen/KVM)
    Build automation and release engineering/DEVOPs (RPM, Yum, Ant, Mock, Koji, SVN, Git, Puppet, Cobbler)
    Technical documentation
    Systems architecture and integration
    Infrastructure services
    Mail (Zimbra, Sendmail, Postfix, EXIM)
    DNS (Bind, Microsoft, Bluecat, 3DNS)
    Logging (Syslog, Rsyslog, Splunk, LogStash, ElasticSearch)
    Monitoring and performance analytics (Nagios, Zenoss, Reimann, SAR, Graphite, Collectd)
    Web services (Apache, Nginx, Proxies, PHP)
    Shell scripting and automation (Bash, Perl, Python)
    Windows system administration
    Unix (Solaris/AIX/BSD/HPUX) administration
    Database administration (MySQL/PostgreSQL/Oracle)
    In-depth knowledge of surrounding technology concepts related to storage, application support and networking
    Public Cloud (Amazon, Azure, Oracle) experience a plus

 
Education:

    B.S. or 5+ years of experience in an engineering-focused role

 
Experience:

    Excellent oral and written communication skills
    Strong presentation and customer-facing skills
    Ability to take ownership of projects and drive to completion
    Ability to handle high-pressure situations and maintain professional demeanor
    Experience in a service provider environment or business with many internally supported units
    Certifications such as RHCE, VMware Certified Professional preferred

 
This role may requires access to customer environments as a means of providing the necessary support to resolve an issue or inquiries into performance-related issues, or for periodic maintenance and management of the systems. In some instances, these environments may contain Personally Identifiable Information (PII) (e.g., such as HIPAA-related Personal Health Information – PHI) and Payment Card Information (PCI). Personnel are expected to adhere to the highest standards of ethics and professionalism in protecting PII.
