WSP is currently initiating a search for Senior Supervising Engineer and Project Manager for our San Bernardino, California office. We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated candidate with experience in the design and project management of Land Development, Transportation, and Federal DoD Projects. This position will function as a senior supervising engineer and project manager, and lead a project team in the development and delivery of these types of projects for the Inland Empire's biggest clients. The primary responsibilities include leading a team of engineers and support staff by providing technical leadership while performing various grading, drainage, utilities, roadway and other civil engineering tasks such as hydrology, hydraulics, storm drain design, water quality analysis, and the development of SWPPP's, WQMP's, and other support documents to include final PS&E development, special provisions, cost estimating, quality controls, and a variety of other tasks and duties. The role will also include collaboration within project and stakeholder teams, and lead / support a variety of business development tasks to grow the business in our service area.

Duties and Responsibilities:

The selected candidate is required to have experience related to the civil engineering infrastructure and transportation market, particularly focused on land development engineering design and construction, along with strong knowledge of civil engineering principles and practices.

  • Manage and perform land development design tasks for civil/highway projects requiring independent judgment in the evaluation, selection and substantial adaptation and modification of standard design or engineering techniques and procedures
  • Manage and perform engineering design tasks and prepare calculations on projects for roadway, grading, site work, and underground utilities from conceptual and preliminary engineering to final design
  • Responsible for coordination with other design disciplines, including roadway, highway, structures, environmental, traffic, electrical, storm drainage, utilities and right of way
  • Responsible for preparation of project reports, plans, specifications, and estimate bid packages
  • Ensure that production of specifications, reports and analyses meet scope, schedule, cost and quality requirements
  • Interact with clients, and lead technical project design meetings
  • Supervise the production of junior and mid-level engineers, and CADD designers/drafters to support various design teams
  • Other duties as assigned

Job Requirements

Experience Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering or related field from an accredited program
  • California PE registration
  • Minimum of fifteen (15) years in the management, design and preparation of project reports and construction contractdocuments for land development projects in support of transportation projects
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills and ability to work within a team environment
  • Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office, a working knowledge of AutoCAD Civil 3D or MicroStation V8i and Inroads, and other design software such as Advanced Engineering Software, Flowmaster, WSPG, HEC RAS, the Rational Method, and Unit Hydrographs.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with local land development codes, Federal FC and UFC guidelines, California Highway Design Manual and Plans Preparation Manual
  • Knowledge and understanding of AASHTO Highway Design Guide, MUTCD, Caltrans and APWA standards, and other related standards.
  • Experience on projects with California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) and/or Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) oversight.
