Senior Structural Engineer

Katerra's Phoenix factory is looking for a Structural Engineer who is responsible for structural plans for construction and manufacturing environments in compliance with applicable building codes.

The structural engineer guides the analysis and development of structural plans, and provides technical support to cross functional teams for manufactured construction projects. Reviews plans and other technical documents, answers questions regarding the manufacturing scope and/or level of completeness for the project.

Performs engineering design evaluations to ensure manufacturing capabilities are in sync with designs. Provides technical support for engineering. Familiar with a variety of the field's concepts, practices, and procedures. Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Performs a variety of complicated tasks. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Research and analyze design options
  • Research, recommend, and approve alternative construction methods and options to resolve issues and accommodated the use of innovative designs within the scope
  • Lead design and documentation of structural systems including: structural layouts, structural components, and specifications
  • Study and apply applicable codes
  • Develop solutions to challenging structural issues with integrated architecture, engineering, construction, and manufacturing teams
  • Work with construction and manufacturing teams to establish scope of work, level of completeness, and structural documents.
  • Ensure designs are compliant with the companies’ principles of design for manufacturing, assembly, and systems integration.
  • Perform engineering computations to check design of structural systems
  • Perform factory inspections.
  • Track and report feedback from design, manufacturing, and construction teams.
  • Prepare reports, technical memorandums, recommendations, and cost estimates

Required Skills & Experience

  • 10 plus years of experience as a structural engineer
  • REVIT - Must be able to navigate the software easily.
  • Recent experience working for a consulting engineer or engineer/architectural firm.
  • LEED Certification is a plus
  • Experience with CBC, NEC, IBC, NFPA
  • Minimum 3 years experience in an integrated construction manufacturing environment.
  • Working knowledge of various construction systems.
  • Knowledge of building codes and their application
  • Forward thinking with strong interpersonal skills are a must.
  • Display a passion for innovation.
