DEA’s Southern California Region is hiring a Senior Structural Engineer to provide a lead technical role on structure design projects.  A successful candidate will work with our client and project managers to lead project teams in the preparation of Advance Planning Studies; Structure Type Selection Reports; and conceptual, preliminary, and final design plans, specifications, and estimates.  Typical projects will include buildings, bridges, and retaining and sound walls utilizing cast in place and precast prestressed concrete, conventional reinforced concrete, steel, and concrete masonry.  Office locations that are available for this position are San Diego, Los Angeles, Tustin/Irving, Santa Clarita, or Ontario. 


In addition the candidate must have experience communicating with clients as both a structural task lead and/or project manager, and be able to ascertain a client’s future needs for additional upcoming work. 


Other duties include:

  • Communicate with client and express client needs to project team
  • Serve as the structural lead on pursuits of identified projects
  • Work closely with the project managers, region marketing manager, and client managers to support business development and marketing pursuits
  • Prepare and monitor work plan, scope, schedule, and budget on structures tasks
  • Work with the larger Bridge and Structures Practice to ensure resources are available to complete existing project work as well as work committed to in proposals
  • Provide effective communication to the project team
  • Demonstrated ability to develop staff, gain support from multiple stakeholders, and deliver superior results

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering
  • 10-15years of structural engineering experience
  • Registered Structural Engineer in California
  • Proven ability in developing client relationships and winning projects

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Project experience with Los Angeles Department ofTransportation (LADOT), Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (Metro) and Los Angeles Bureau of Engineering (LABOE) is preferred
  • Knowledge of AASHTO and CALTRANS bridge design standards
  • Master’s Degree in Structural Engineering
