As Senior Pricing Strategy Manager, you will report directly to the Senior Director, Portfolio Operations and be responsible for acting as a strategic lead in thinking through Blackboard's overall approach to pricing while also serving as a hands-on practitioner who will drive improved execution and operational excellence in pricing across the organization. You will evolve Blackboard's pricing strategy for the entire portfolio of products/services/solutions. Additionally, you will be responsible for improving Blackboard's overall pricing processes, systems, and compliance.

Specific responsibilities will include:

Strategic Pricing Capabilities

  • Supporting the establishment of a pricing framework based on a comprehensive approach including customer's perceived value/price sensitivity, pricing history, competitor pricing, cost to acquire and serve, etc.
  • Coordinating the collection and validation of relevant information from across the organization including stakeholders from strategy, finance, product management, client services, product marketing, business ops, sales, legal, etc.
  • Combining business logic, rigorous analysis, and strategic perspective to develop pricing recommendations
  • Synthesizing analysis and presenting recommendations to senior management in an effective way to aid in investment decisions
  • Working closely with Blackboard's internal financial and operational teams and sources to analyze and interpret data to drive financial projections and pricing models
  • Exercising solid, logical business judgment in the development of assumptions to inform the costs, revenues, and other operational inputs for the pricing of new products or the application of existing products to new clients, channels, and offer environments
  • Working with research partners and applying external market knowledge, internal and external client context, and history as a key lens to inform pricing decisions
  • Supporting the development of a multi-year strategy to build and implement pricing frameworks across the company with appropriate measurement and refinement over time

Pricing Management

  • Leading the operational oversight of pricing strategy implementation, management, and tracking
  • Identifying, executing, and managing specific initiatives to further the company's ability to effectively price products/services/solutions
  • Improving understanding of price sensitivity and impact of discounting on win/loss rates
  • Analyzing the trade-off between product attributes and demand
  • Reviewing corporate margin requirements in the context of competitive and market constraints
  • Analyzing effectiveness of past pricing decisions
  • Recommending effective and appropriate discounting policies
  • Collaborating with various stakeholder groups to identify areas for pricing process improvement including business process re-design and system/structure support to deliver pricing updates effectively
  • Identifying and implementing improvements in analytical techniques and data infrastructure to improve the quality of pricing decisions
  • Driving operational excellence initiatives to increase pricing model effectiveness

The Candidate:

  • Has a bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience
  • Has 4-8 years of total business experience and 2-5 years of experience in global pricing of enterprise software, services, or solution bundles
  • Has business experience working in an analytic capacity in fields such as management consulting, marketing analytics, pricing analytics, or financial analysis
  • Has expertise with Microsoft Excel
  • Has strong analytical skills including familiarity with statistical techniques
  • Can interact with senior management; has strong communication and presentation skills; can synthesize information into key messages appropriate for the audience
  • Has intellectual curiosity and an interest in using data to drive decisions
  • Experience with global/multi-currency pricing and working with different GTM models- direct sales, channel partners, etc. is preferred
  • Knowledge or experience in the education technology industry is a plus
  • Experience with pricing of SaaS and/or PaaS is ideal
  • Experience with pricing of Consulting/Professional Services is preferred
