Role Summary:

The Senior Software Architect will provide key technology leadership within the Open Avionics engineering team and collaborate with engineering teams to advance a common platform software architecture / strategy aligned to product roadmaps. They will provide guidance and mentoring as well as expertise in business pursuits and product development.

Essential Responsibilities:

Additionally, as the Senior Software Architect, key responsibilities will include:

Participate in defining the software architectures for the platform computing products targeted to our Military Systems and Advanced Flight Deck products from concept to production
Develop platform software architectures and roadmaps applying in-depth knowledge of product related technologies, technology platforms, architectures and engineering design principles and advancements
Leverage technical depth to work on business initiatives aimed at new product & technology introductions, innovation and quality excellence
Develop project proposals including defining project scope, cost and schedule, technologies, and identifying key risks & opportunities
Mentor the technical teams through the full software life cycle including requirements generation, design, implementation, verification & validation, and certification
Support the deployment of Model Based Design (MBD) in the Open Avionics engineering team
Facilitate communication of technical and business information between functional and product organizations and within the Open Avionics engineering team
Instill a rigorous approach to cost estimation for new product development and driving cost out through reusable software architectures, supplier partnering, and improvements to development & verification approaches
Select appropriate technologies, processes, and tools that meet product requirements and advance the platform software architectures


Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science or related discipline from an accredited college or university
Minimum of 10 years of experience in computer software related technology
Minimum of 10 years of experience in software engineering development program execution

This role is restricted to U.S. persons (i.e., U.S. citizens, permanent residents, and other protected individuals under the Immigration and Naturalization Act, 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3)) due to access to export-controlled technology. GE will require proof of status prior to employment

Desired Characteristics:

Master’s Degree in an Engineering related field from an accredited university or college
Minimum of 5 years of experience with DO-178B / C avionics software development processes and certification standards
Familiarity with DO-254, DO-297, ARP 4754 certification standards
Familiarity with Earned Value and Activity Based Management structures
Demonstrated experience with real-time embedded software architecture and design in an avionics environment working within a cross-functional team
Demonstrated experience with Model Based Design for Real-Time systems
Experience driving large-scale software architecture efforts
Experience in avionics, aircraft systems and avionics software architecture development and integration processes
Knowledge of processing platforms, network products, Real-Time Operating Systems (RTOS) and multi-core architectures
Demonstrated expertise in ARINC653 based operating systems
Demonstrated ability to influence product leadership and product architectures through action-oriented recommendations based on technology strategy
Technical leadership experience within a development or research environment
Lean Six Sigma trained and Green Belt certified or equivalent quality training and certification
Demonstrated ability to lead global and/or virtual teams
Demonstrated leadership in applying and advancing state-of-the-art software technologies
Influential in software technologies and processes with peers, technical experts and leadership
Strategic planner and thinker with ability to drive change across product areas
Strong written and oral communication skills with keen ability to communicate across all levels of the organization
Self-starter, energizing, results oriented, and able to multi-task
