Summary

The Sr. Solutions Architect is responsible for design and delivery of complex technical solutions enabling the continued growth of the NLG business.  You will partner with business stakeholders early, understand their requirements and processes, and then stay engaged as an Architect and Developer throughout the entire project lifecycle.  Effective communications, a positive attitude, and a proven track record of serving in a technical leadership role are key qualifications.

As a senior member of the NLG Architecture Team you will also be responsible for maturing our architecture and SDLC processes. You will be a key contributor to our evolving collection of reference architectures, patterns, conventions, and be an active member in our SDLC governance processes. We’re looking for an inquisitive individual with a passion for continuous improvement, quality, and drive to follow-through.

Key Responsibilities

Solution Delivery

  • Partner with business teams and the EPMO to scope projects and define high-level requirements.

  • Drive solution architectures from ideation through release and support.

  • Ensure solutions satisfy business requirements and are of the highest possible quality.

  • Lead development teams in the definition of project implementation plans.

  • Develop project deliverables, proof-of-concepts, and pilot new technologies.

  • Serve as the primary escalation point for any project technical issue or challenge.

  • Communicate effectively, and with an appropriate level of detail, to all levels in the organization. 

  • Identify and manage implementation risk.

    Application Architecture & Governance

  • Drive the definition and adoption of enterprise reference architectures and development standards.

  • Serve as an active member of our architecture review board. 

  • Collaborate with other architects and our development staff to resolve technical challenges.

  • Maintain a solid partnership with business leaders and provide strategic technical leadership.

    Solution Support

  • Provide architecture and technical support during production incidents.

  • Ensure delivered solutions are monitored, have a support plan, and adequate business controls.

    Job Requirements

  • Master’s degree, preferred in Computer Science; or relevant work experience.

  • Minimum of 10 years of software engineeringexperience, with increasing leadership responsibilities.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead in a highly matrixed, heavily outsourced organization through a combination of influence, partnership, and authority

  • Hands-on knowledge of current technology standards/trends coupled with a desire to continually expand personal knowledge/skills

  • Domain knowledge of the Insurance Industry (preferably L&A) as well as the technologies and solutions relevant to this industry

  • Demonstrated successful mastery of all components of Iterative and Agile SDLC methodologies in the context of major systems implementations and especially on projects and initiatives of high complexity

  • Ability and interest in mentoring technical staff and raising our collective technical competencies

  • Ability to manage change and cope with complex and ambiguous situations

  • Ability to establish and maintain relationships with other business and technology leaders

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills coupled with the ability to tailor communication to all levels of an organization

  • Demonstrated ability to debate ideas/strategy, comfortable managing constructive conflict, and not afraid to challenge the status quo

  • Broad IT experience spanning infrastructure (including HA and DR), applications, and security

  • Open-minded with proven ability to work collaboratively with others in team environment

  • Experience identifying, defining and implementing technical design/coding standards

  • In depth understanding of how the people, processes and technology within an organization interact in relationships and patterns to create a feasible solution on highly complex projects

  • Required Technical Skills – RDB design and best practices, OOD, EIA, SOA (patterns and applications), automated test strategies and frameworks, hands-on or recent proficiency in developing applications using .NET, J2EE, or LAMP/LAMR.

  • Desired Skills – IBM Mainframes, API Management, Continuous Integration, JIRA/Agile, iPaaS, RWD (AngularJS), REST, Emerging DatabaseTechnologies (Hadoop, NoSQL), SalesForce, Azure, Sitecore, Mobile Development, Identity Access Management, Application Performance Management (New Relic, Keynote), Managing Technical Debt
