VMware seeks a Senior Software Engineer for our Build Systems team under the Cloud and Productivity Engineering group. The Build Systems team develops, deploys and supports software, services and tools that turn a VMware compute cloud into a Build System used by over 8,000+ VMware product engineers. We develop software to solve complexity and scale issues not addressed by standard open source or off-the-shelf solutions. Engineers on our team are expected to develop, test and deploy code to production as well as help analyze, resolve and root cause issues in our production system.

Our team is geographically distributed with members in Palo Alto, Boston, Sofia (Bulgaria) and Bangalore (India).

Responsibilities:

  • Be part of an agile engineering team focusing on developing software used for building and delivering high quality enterprise software products in a parallel development environment
  • Design, develop, test and deploy code to production
  • Help support production code and systems
  • Participate in design discussions and code reviews
  • Interact with our customers – VMware R&D engineers

Requirements:

  • Experience in developing software in a Linux environment
  • Computer Science – B.S. with 5-6 years of work experience or M.S. in Computer Science with 3-4 years of experience preferred but equivalent experience/education is acceptable
  • Experience working on/with large, complex software is a plus but not required
  • Experience in Python is preferred but not required
  • Experience in Perforce, Git, Jenkins, Gerrit, Review Board, SonarQube, Jira, Fisheye, Artifactory Docker, Ansible, etc is preferred but not required
  • Experience with Build software - Make, Scons, Bazel, Maven, Gradle, etc. is preferred not required
  • Experience using Pyunit and Qunit is preferred but not required
  • Experience in agile methodology is preferred but not required
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Works well with others and on their own
