This approach is referred to as hypothesis-driven engineering and emphasizes the concept of “validated learning” where progress is defined not just in terms of delivering changes but in acquiring validated understanding of how product changes affect the quality of the user experience. As part of our data platform and in close collaboration with the Artificial Intelligence and Research (AIR) team and Azure Networking team, we are developing feature rollout and experimentation capabilities to support these goals for Office clients and Office services.
Experimentation allows us to quickly and safely validate our hypothesis about markets, customers, patterns of usage and how code should behave. It also allows us to understand whether we are building the right product and get customer feedback, quickly, efficiently and at lower cost. A/B Testing is a scientific method to prove the causality of a change on the observed impact. In other words, using A/B testing you can be sure that the observed impact is caused by the change you made and not simply due to correlation. We can determine whether a feature or an idea will be beneficial for the users or not before shipping it. User behavior are hard to predict and even innocuous changes can cause big impact. We can limit the risk of a change by testing it on a small set of users before shipping. It allows you to test multiple variations together and determine the best candidate for shipping.
Office is investing heavily in Service Delivered Feature (SDF), Modern Units of Interaction (MUI) and Professional Intelligent Networks (PIN). Office products will reach a new level of innovation in how information workers collaborate. This massive undertaking also poses architectural challenges in enabling experimentation capabilities in such a networked ecosystem of information workers. As part of this team, you will be working on an exciting set of features from conception to delivery that includes design, implementation and validation. You will have to make design and architectural choices regarding the product behavior. You will be interacting with teams across multiple organizations and divisions to successfully deliver your features. You will get opportunities to define and deliver the vision of Experimentation in Office organization.
- Minimum 8years’ software development experience.
- Excellent programming skills in C++.
- Strong software design skills, especially having exceptional low level class design ability.
- Strong problem solving skills.
- Strong drive for result. Having an attitude of making things happen.
- Experience in Experimentation technologies is an advantage.
- Experience in Windows Azure and building services is an advantage.
- Experience in Big Data, pipeline, processing and analytics is an advantage.
- BS degree (or equivalent) in Computer Science and Engineering.
