GZA GeoEnvironmental, Inc. (GZA) is currently seeking a self-motivated Senior Site Safety Officer to join our expanding Safety Practice in our Portland, Maine office.  The Senior Site Safety Officer will work closely with others in their office, on site, and directly with clients and contractors. This leader will be involved in supporting additional team members and developing short and long-term program focus with our Core Service Leaders and Technical Practice team. Candidates with a strong construction safety background and desire to participate in development of client relationships, leading multi-disciplined teams, and executing a wide variety of projects are encouraged to apply today.
Key Duties:

  • Managing all aspects of safety and health for site project teams and executing day to day activities of projects
  • Conducting internal and client communications
  • Monitoring team performance for compliance with contractual agreements and budgets
  • Providing business development support
  • Preparing proposals and reviewing/writing reports with Principal guidance and review
  • Managing project contractual and financial issues (including terms of agreement, changes in scope, billing process)
  • Conducting/reviewing technical analyses/calculations
  • Participating in meetings and agency consultation
  • Conducting site compliance inspections
  • Conducting site incident investigations and preparing summary incident reports


  • Bachelor’s Degree in the Sciences or Safety and Health
  • 5+ years of relevant experience in construction health and safety management
  • Completion of the 30-hour OSHA Construction Safety course
  • Demonstrated understanding of State and Federal regulations from agencies such as OSHA and US Army Corps of Engineers
  • Desire to manage and mentor staff and review and evaluate their work while fostering staff growth and development
  • Ability to collaborate in multi-office, team environment and with 3rd party contractors
  • Excellent communication, problem solving and organizational skills
  • Demonstrated delegation, leadership, and team building skills
  • Experienced computer skills using MS Office
  • Having any of the following credentials is a plus: CHST, CSP
