As a member of the Software Engineering team within Genentech Research & Early Development you will work with our distinguished scientists to understand their needs and translate their requirements into software strategies and solutions that advance our mission. You will work closely with project stakeholders and end users to understand their business processes and data management needs. You will identify gaps, propose solutions and lead a development team to engineer your vision.

Understand and conceptualize the complex needs of our distinguished scientists
Identify innovative and sustainable solutions to improve data management and business processes to address the needs of our customers.
Define product roadmap and strategy in collaboration with customers and software engineering management.
Elicit requirements and act as a liaison between scientists and development teams.
Translate and document business needs into high-quality and clearly-defined software requirements, and lead technical teams to implement the solutions.
Work closely with key stakeholders in the business unit to define and influence the architecture and functionality of IT solutions supporting critical research processes.
Bachelor's degree or higher, with 5+ years of experience analyzing business requirements within a scientific / laboratory environment. 10+ years of experience is preferred.
Demonstrated ability to understand complex scientific requirements to effectively communicate with users, understand their work, and translate requirements into software solutions.
Ability to effectively manage a team of in-house and offshore developers, setting up their tasks and priorities and delivering solutions on time and in scope.
Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
You have direct experience working with some of the following languages/technologies: Java, Microservices, Oracle, MongoDB, SQL, R, RShiny, Jenkins, Icinga.
You have experience working in an Agile software development environment.
You enjoy working closely with scientist customers to elicit their system needs and subsequently define complex system requirements.
You are pragmatic about the tradeoffs between features, quality, and timeliness.
You have experience in all aspects of the software development process, including requirements gathering, architecture, design, implementation, release, and maintenance.
You have experience in documenting detailed software requirements, user stories, business processes and software specifications for both custom and COTS systems.
You have a strong desire to follow software development best practices.
You are able to present your work, both verbally and in writing, to diverse audiences including customers, technical colleagues, and management.
You have experience and are comfortable performing many roles on a team including individual contributor, leader, developer, analyst, or project manager.
You are comfortable working in a scientific environment, especially one that is related to drug development.
