Responsibilities/Accountabilities
  • Drive the implementation of Tacora's strategy ensuring the key focus areas are at the forefront of Senior Safety Advisor decisions being made on the site.
  • Ensure a full understanding of the Tacora's safety assurance standards, relevant regulations and best practices through continual learning events and information sources.
  • Coordinate all Senior Safety Advisor matters related to assurance of contractor operations and ensuring necessary safety deliverables are provided to the required standard at relevant stages during the execution of the work.
  • Working closely with all site areas to ensure that they plan and deliver their work in line with the Tacora's safety requirements.
  • Attend safety meetings with site area ensuring key points are raised and actions taken.
  • Provide guidance and support to operational teams.
  • Liaise and coach site supervision and Safety Advisors, both Tacora's and Contractors.
  • Oversee the preparation of safety documentation required as part of the safety management system, carry out reviews and intervention as required ensuring documentation is effective and reviewed continuously.
  • Challenge traditional thinking to drive improvements in the planning and execution of safety objectives on site.
  • Support as required any review of tender or prequalification information as part of the procurement process.
  • Conduct regular site tours, inspections, audits etc. to continually monitor the implementation of the agreed safety controls and programs.
  • Promote and implement interactive safety campaigns that engage with the workforce improving safety awareness on critical risks.
  • Drive the effective use of the site inspection tools within the Tacora and Contractor personnel.
  • Conduct or provide support to the incident investigation process.
  • Monitor implementation of corrective actions resulting from investigations and conduct periodic follow-ups.
  • Perform field audits to ensure emergency response plans are prepared and implemented.
  • Lead by example, encouraging a positive safety culture, recognizing those for good practice.
  • Where persons are found not following safe practices intervene, mentor and coach to look for solutions to change behavior.
  • Review and monitor safety performance on the projects, identifying trends and areas for improvement.
  • Provide support to Tacora and Contractors in the coordination of safety training courses offered by the site.
  • In conjunction with manager, stop works where critical risks are not effectively being managed and pose significant risk to persons or property.
  • Conduct root cause analysis as required and identify preventative actions.
  • Attend meetings as required, ensuring relevant information is being disseminated effectively throughout the organization.
  • Identify and escalate key lessons learned to the General Manager of Safety for broader circulation.

Knowledge & Skills:
  • Thorough Knowledge of Health and Safety Regulatory Requirements and Industry Best Practices.
  • Candidate should have loss prevention experience and working knowledge in areas such as: process safety management, incident/injury prevention, hazard identification, qualitative and quantitative risk analysis, safe operating procedures and standards, behavioural safety programs, and incident investigation.
  • Proficient in conducting H&S Management System Auditing.
  • Must be able to work in a collaborative/supportive manner with stakeholders.
  • Experience working with contractors to ensure their Health and Safety Systems / Applications meet or exceed Tacora's minimum requirements.
  • Must possess project management skills combined with sound judgment and decision-making skills.
  • Must be able to work effectively as a key member of the Site Team within a multi-functional team environment .
  • Excellent problem-solving, planning and organizational skills.

Qualifications:
  • Driver's License (Required).
  • Degree /Diploma with relevant technical background from an accredited university.
  • Minimum 10 years' practical experience in monitoring and implementation of Health and Safety systems and programs in heavy industrial industry.
  • CRSP, CSP, NCSO or an equivalent combination of education and practical experience.
  • Lead Auditor Certification in ISO 45001 or 18001.
