Bowhead is seeking a Senior Research Chemist for its PMO ASE contract in Raleigh, NC. The Senior Research Chemist will be a technical advisor to ensure continued success through effective program management support that includes well formulated recommendations for optimizing research capabilities and opportunities and provide the necessary expertise and labor to formulate, capture, and develop additional research opportunities for the Army and DoD.
Tasks include, but are not limited to:
a) Scientific Advisor for the ARO Reactive Chemical Systems Program to advise the Acting Chemistry Program Manager overseeing the reactive chemical systems program. The individual will aid in assessing, developing, and promoting cutting-edge polymer research.
b) Gather information and prepare reports on budgetary matters.
c) Provide advice regarding the annual evaluation of the Reactive Chemical Systems Program, including reviewing white papers, proposals, progress, research plans, and participation in site visits.
d) Develop technical and informational documents that describe research program highlights, accomplishments, activities, and potential areas of improvement and disseminate to the Army and DoD.
e) As opportunities arise, visit local universities to conduct meetings and gather technical information.
f) Identify new scientific opportunities that have Army relevance and have a high potential to transform future Army capabilities by attending scientific and DoD meetings, by reading the literature, by talking to academia, by reading and evaluating proposals, and by technical assessments and recommendations for MURI and SBIR/STTR topic development.
g) Coordinate with government labs, academia, and industry to identify promising transition paths for Reactive Chemical Systems Program results.
SECURITY CLEARANCE REQUIRED: Must be able to maintain a security clearance at the Secret level. US Citizenship is a requirement for Secret clearance at this location.
• Master’s Degree in organic, inorganic, or polymer chemistry or a closely related field and at least 5 years of program management support experience.
• Familiar with the objectives and evaluation of Army and DoD related research solicitations and special programs,
• Experience processing and executing research funds, monitoring financial records and statistics, translating budget reports into functional formats, and updating financial and contractual data,
• In-depth knowledge of the DoD Chemical Biological Defense Program.
Physical Demands: Office Environment - - The environmental conditions consist of computer stations and desks with adequate and adjustable lighting. Chairs are designed to fit the various individuals and the tasks being performed. Ergonomic evaluations are completed as needed, to provide up to date modifications to all work stations.
