The New York Times seeks an experienced Project Manager to lead strategic projects in the Email and Personalization teams.
As a core member of your project teams, you will help lead the effort to realize our mission of delivering email newsletters that build meaningful relationships with readers and helping users discover engaging, relevant and useful content across our front-end platforms and, in the process, move users down the customer funnel with the ultimate goal of converting and retaining subscribers.
You are expected to identify opportunities, suggest solutions, and act decisively when necessary to advance a project. We’re looking for an action-oriented, hands-on project manager who can manage multiple teams and projects. There’s no “one-size-fits-all” here; each team will require different levels of involvement and intensity of agile processes.
Ideally, you have...
The experience and wisdom to lead project teams and manage risks, and have shipped multiple products on time and within budget. You can take ownership of complex efforts and mediate between competing interests and personalities to achieve alignment and motivate change.
Excellent organizational skills. You can conscientiously manage and follow up on multiple concurrent tasks and requests on tight deadlines.
Superb communication skills, including the ability to communicate between technical and non-technical contributors.
Act as a strong leader and owner of front and back-end projects; motivate and maintain momentum as you drive those projects to successful, smooth, on-time completion.
Work closely with the team to drive definition, prioritization and execution of projects.
Actively seek out, track and remove barriers to completing a project. Look beyond the obvious for continuous opportunities for improvement.
Ensure that project milestones and project scope are well defined. Track and communicate project progress on a regular basis to the project team and partners.
Champion and support agilesoftware development practices, and tailor that process (including scrums, planning, review and retrospective sessions, demos and more) to each project team.
Work collaboratively with Advertising, Marketing, Brand, Newsroom, Product, Design and Technology stakeholders to build consensus and handle dependencies.
Coach and mentor project teams and stakeholders on project management, agile development and continuous improvement.
3+ years Project Management experience (formal or informal) including agile and scrum practices
Experience working with web development projects
Certified Scrum Master (CSM) and knowledge/use of Jira and Confluence
Experience in media and publishing a plus
