Responsible for the Rail Signaling Communications System design, development, implementation and quality to that of the contractual requirements
Reviews and coordinates Systems Communications and Data Communications System (DCS) issues
Conducts periodic reviews with the Rail contractor
Advises Project Team on Communications and DCS issues, defects, delivery
Tracks performance of contractor’s Communications design and take appropriate action as required
Reviews the contractual submissions (plans, design, requirements, etc.) from the supplier
Records and manages Communications and DCS engineering issues and escalates where necessary.
Bachelor’s Degree (or higher) in Electrical/Electronics Engineering or Computer Science is required
Minimum of 10 years of experience with rail transportation and telecommunications
Deep knowledge of Rail Communications Systems elements such as Fibre Optics and Backbone Communications Networks, Telephone Systems, Voice/Data Radio Communications and Distributed Antenna System, CCTV, Passenger Information Display Systems, Intercom, Public Address System, SCADA, Local Area Networks, Master Clock, Intrusion Access Control, SNMP protocol and related applications, Communications component selection and procurement, etc.
Good capability in Systems Engineering and Integration activities, such as requirements development and management; verification and validation activities for communications systems; knowledge of quality processes and methods; basic knowledge of software development life cycle; Test plan/procedure/report development and execution; Systems document preparation; presentation and team leadership capacity; etc.
Licensed Professional Engineer (or eligible) preferred
Experience in Communication Based Train Control (CBTC) is required
Experience in wireless and wired network design is required
Cisco or other network and firewall certifications would be an asset.
Knowledge of Cybersecurity technologies/measures/strategies is an asset.
Proficiency in computer and software applications
Experience in UNIX and LINUX environments would be an asset.
Knowledge of CADD applications and their operation is an asset.
