Job Description Summary:

In 2013, the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine established the Gulf Research Program to enhance oil system safety and the protection of human health and the environment in the Gulf of Mexico and other U.S. outer continental shelf areas. The Program seeks to improve understanding of the region's interconnecting human, environmental, and energy systems and fostering application of these insights to benefit communities and ecosystems of the Gulf.


The Gulf Research Program (GRP) of the National Academies of Science, Engineering, and Medicine seeks a Senior Program Officer as the Data Activity Director. The Data Activity Director is responsible for developing and overseeing the GRP data management program. NAS is part of the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine, along with the National Academy of Engineering (NAE) and the National Academy of Medicine (NAM). As a national academy, new members of the organization are elected annually by current members, based on their distinguished and continuing achievements in original research. Election to the National Academies is one of the highest honors in the scientific field. Members serve pro bono as "advisers to the nation" on science, engineering, and medicine.
