Capital Implementation team
Key member of capex implementation team; from design to installation, commissioning and start-up.
Fluent use of TPM methodologies (EEM, PM, AM, PD) to delivery CAPEX on time, on budget, at right customer expectation
Handle multiple projects concurrently.
Provide process engineering input into equipment design and layout.
Hands-on installation and commissioning of new equipment, products and/or processes.
Works closely with Technical department on the industrialization of new products and processes
Works closely with the Technical department to align the needs of the products to the process equipment engineering and specifications.
Links with R&D for the industrialization of new products and processes.
Detailed Design reviews, working with 3D models
Develop detailed design process scope and detailed equipment specifications of process equipment, either individually or in collaboration with the capex team.
Work collaboratively with other engineering departments within CertainTeed and Saint-Gobain.
Develop and refine Automation Control Strategies and Narratives
Translate technical information into operator training documents.
Train engineers, operators and tradespeople on new equipment/processes.
Work with plant teams to ensure capex project information is integrated into local plant management systems
Evaluation and selection of process equipment from competitive tenders to suit manufacturing best practices
Witness and approval of Factory Acceptance Testing of equipment and systems against clear criteria.
This role may require a person to rotate into a given plant for a fixed period of time. Required agility to do this.
Subject Matter Expert Support
Provide mechanical engineering expertise as a member of a Subject Matter Expert (SME) group for a specified area of the plants.
Develops baseline fundamental knowledge of equipment function and operation in relation to maximizing product performance.
Work interactively with Automation Engineer and Process Engineer as part of SME group.
Provide coaching, training and support to local plant teams in SME area.
Available to travel to plants at short notice to provide troubleshooting support
Provide guidance to optimize performance in SME area of plant.
Keep up to date with company best practices in SME area and disseminate.
Provide guidance on energy optimization within SME area.
Use of Focused Improvement (FI) tools within WCM framework
Provide input into Long Range Plans for improvements.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Ensure CertainTeed Gypsum’s standards of safety, quality and reliability are built into process and equipment solutions utilizing WCM principles.
Technical support to our company Innovation platforms, implementation and refinement of necessary best practices, all while liaising with global company and industry experts.
Develop and encourage innovative processes and equipment concepts along with follow through to Return on Investments (ROI) patents and / or proprietary intellectual property when appropriate.
In conjunction with Purchasing and Project staff, identify applicable bidders, evaluates competitive bids and assess Low Country Cost (LCC) potential.
Works in a manufacturing plant environment. Extensive travel up to 75% required. Exposure to industrial noise, dust, chemicals and temperature changes. Normal plant operation is 24 hours, 7 days a week and work hours may vary depending on business needs. May require long hours, and weekend and holiday work. Requires travel by air and rental cars globally, primarily within NA.
Must be able to spend a significant amount of time on plant floor. Job includes tasks that require walking, bending, twisting, gripping, stair and ladder climbing, entering confined spaces, navigating rough terrain and occasional lifting of up to 35 lbs. Job may require long periods of sitting, walking, standing, working on a computer or engaging in telephone conversation. Must be capable of wearing personal protective equipment necessary to comply with government and company safety standards whenever engineered methods of reducing hazards or physical requirements cannot be reasonably accommodated.
Honours Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical/Process/Industrial Engineering
Active P.Eng. designation. Willingness to certify in multiple provinces required.
Minimum seven (7) years of progressive experience, delivering major projects/initiatives
Experience gained must be in an applied manufacturing environment, preferably in a large, heavy continuous manufacturing industry.
Statistic Process Control and relation to equipment specification and performance
Fully capable of developing process simulations, design of experiments, material and energy balances, design calculations, fan curves, equipment sizing and data sheets, P&IDs and flow diagrams, process safety calculations, among others.
Strong, positive safety record in regard to operations and capital project accountabilities.
Excellent interpersonal and problem solving capabilities to work effectively in corporate, manufacturing and team environments.551119
