Ciena’s Optical Modem New Product Introduction Program and Capacity Management team is looking for a senior Process Engineer to be part of the team responsible for supporting Contract Manufacturers (CMs) for existing product offering as well as for the next generation of optical transport products (100G, 200G, 400G, UULH).

The role of the Process Engineer (PCBA/SMT) will work with the R&D development teams as well as CM manufacturing teams to ensure product quality. Provide technical expertise to lead the organization in process development and implementation of manufacturing processes of Surface Mount (SMT), Through Hole (THT) printed circuit board assemblies (PCBA’s) to improve production cost, efficiencies, yields and quality.

Key responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership for NPI product and process stabilization with a focus on SMT process and PCB manufacturing
  • Review DFMEA documents and provide input to design teams to improve design for production
  • Establish robust, repeatable and reproducible process parameters and process controls
  • Create/investigate alternative solutions to meet the producibility requirements
  • Transitioning Design into Contract Manufacturer (CM)
  • Develop process/tools to support product into production
  • Analysis of product performance to ensure volume supply can meet business objectives
  • Provide on-site support to CM to address product/quality and delivery issues
  • Support sustaining activities for product in production regarding DFM, Yield & Cost improvement

Qualifications and Experience required:

  • Bachelor/Master degree in Electrical/Mechanical/Production Engineering or equivalent
  • Minimum 7-10 years of SMT engineering experience
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Strong troubleshooting, analytical and problem solving skills
  • Able to provide feedback to team members in a clear and constructive manner
  • Work with cross functional teams and CM’s around the world to support completing NPI tasks
  • Ability manage multiple projects at the same time
  • Experience with Agile and Oracle an asset
