In this role you will be responsible for leading the design, development, and qualification of rocket engine components to meet program goals. You will mentor other engineers and help to establish design standards and best practices for engine assembly components across all the Engines Business Unit programs. You will provide leadership and technical guidance to the design team through phases of the product lifecycle from initial concepts and trade studies, detail design/analysis, as well as development and flight support. You will serve as Subject Matter Expert during design reviews and failure investigations and provide technical oversight to the design community.
To be successful in this position, you will provide technical oversight on the detail design of heat exchangers, pogo suppression systems, gimbal bearings, and flexible elements including gimbal joint bellows and flex hoses. Your expertise and guidance will directly affect engine assembly level components across multiple programs.
You will be responsible for the review and release of component detail designs, documentation of analysis, production/manufacturing support, and the integration of the component into the rocket engine assembly. As Senior Principal Engineer within the Engines Business Unit you will also participate in FMECA and develop risk mitigation plans and have demonstrated skills in mechanical design/analysis, working knowledge of aerospace materials, manufacturing processes, as well as engineering release / configuration management. You will also help to mentor early career engineers as well as assist in developing design standards and processes to be used across all engine programs. Furthermore, you will drive research and development of cutting-edge next generation engine architecture.
