Reporting to the Director of Engineering and Major Projects, this position is critical to the performance and development of E2’s pipeline design for ILI retrofit services for our clients, and requires the successful individual to have substantial experience and knowledge in gas transmission code compliance, risk management, pipeline and facility design, pipeline integrity management and in-line inspection assessment technologies. The position will work closely with project managers and engineering managers throughout E2’s Eastern Region.

This position must support the overall Risk Management and Integrity Management goals and objectives of our clients and help ensure that our design teams are clearly aligned with our clients focus on pipeline safety.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Perform oversight of all pipeline-related engineering work products (calculations, design, specifications, etc.)
  • Provide technical leadership to other engineers
  • At the commencement of each project, identify, plan and schedule engineering and design tasks required within the project
  • Provide on-the-job training for junior engineers
  • Function as interface between engineering teams, management and clients
  • Ensure that all engineering work is done in accordance with applicable regulations, codes and, E2’s and client’s policies and procedures
  • Provide quality control checks of all pipeline engineering documents
  • Participate in project scoping and cost estimates; and
  • Provide pipeline routing and facility design requirements

Perform or supervise preparation of:

  • Design Basis Memorandum, design specifications and procedures
  • Preliminary Engineering Reports
  • Pipeline stress calculations
  • Hydrostatic pressure test calculations and plans
  • Cost Estimates
  • Pipe sizing calculations
  • Buoyancy control calculations and studies
  • Bill of Materials (BOM)

Review and provide engineering input guidance for:

  • Plan and profile alignment sheets
  • Permit drawings (road, railroad, and waterbody crossings)
  • Typical detail drawings
  • Hydrostatic test drawings
  • Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD) drawings
  • Grading Plans and Site-specific drawings
  • QA/QC deliverables
  • Other duties as assigned

 Position Requirements

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering from a U.S.-based ABET accredited program
  • Project Management experience
  • P.E. preferred
  • Strong Written and Oral communication skills
  • Experience with client/vendor communication

Job Requirements

  • Minimum seven (7) years of experience in natural gas and refined product pipeline engineering
  • Pipeline operations and pipeline construction experience a plus
  • Familiar with all relevant codes and regulations, especially US DOT CFR 49, Part 192 and/or 195, ASME B31.4, B31.8, B31.8s, NACE SP0502, API 1110 and 1163
  • Familiar with energy pipeline industry practices and permitting requirements for pipeline design and construction
  • Experience with pipeline modeling software, engineering tool box, and Microsoft Project is a plus
  • Self-motivated, independent worker with strong initiative and a can-do attitude
  • Leadership skills needed to supervise and assist the technical work of less experienced engineers and designers
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficient with computers in an engineering environment including MS Office products; knowledge of GIS is a plus
  • Must demonstrate through experience the ability to interact with multiple client disciplines and successfully execute projects from inception thru completion
