BlueSoHo, a communications firm serving premier brands, seeks anexperienced, versatile Senior Art Director to work to on-site in our in Portland, Maine studio to help create visual content exclusively for L.L.Bean, Inc. – a brand known for living life outdoors and connecting to nature with rugged, good-looking clothing & gear. The Art Director works closely with theAssociate Creative Director and theinternal creative team to develop on-brand, creative solutions for a variety ofchannels.The right candidate will have a strong photo background in branding, creative concept development, with the production skills to execute their ideas. This person will beresponsible for understanding the client’s strategies and program goals and will display a highdegree of creativity utilizing industry trends and visual design skills.Responsibilities:

  • Art direct all off-figure, still life and Web AV photographic assets for Print, Digital, Retail business channels
  • Partners with L.L.Bean Merchandising and Brand Leadership, using expertise in visual communication and problem solving
  • Manages and mentors Stylists and creative talent providing direction, coaching and professional development guidance
  • Collaborate with merchants and design partners to brainstorm and concept seasonal photography needs for omni-channel exposure plans 
  • Direct photo shoots, pre-production meetings, selection of talent and resources to meet project objectives established by Creative Director
  • Direct and maintain the creative standards of our production and design team 
  • Produce assigned projects on schedule and within assigned expenses.
  • Partner with Photo Operations to ensure necessary production requirements are met
  • Participate in pre-production meetings for assigned projects, providing creative input concerning product presentation
  • Responsible for the editing, organizing and final selection of all assigned photography
  • Conduct review of new photography with Senior Leadership ensuring that presentations are complete, effective, and meet creative and marketing objectives.
  • Partner with Production Manager, Quality Control teams to ensure final images meet technical standards
  • Identify and recommend solutions to graphic problems in partnership with Designer team
  • Train new photographers
  • Understand the LL Bean brand and properly adhere to guidelines/requirements 
  • Ensure the overall quality of deliverables, ensuring accurate and timely completion on multiple projects simultaneously and meet tight deadlines within established budgets

Qualifications

  • Degree in photography, design or related field
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience designing for retail inserts, catalogs, collateral and more. 
  • Knowledge of all steps required for the print process and an understanding of production methods to ensure designs can be produced for print delivery 
  • Proficiency in all Mac-based, industry-standard software programs including, but not limited to, InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator. Some knowledge of the Windows platform is also required
  • Deep understanding of branding, marketing, advertising, and strategies within those disciplines
  • High-level expertise in constructing clean, layered files, and knowledge of creating and working with templates and style sheets
  • Possesses exceptional typographic and clear, concise solution-based design skill
  • Proactive, appropriate and timely communication skills across department, agency and clients
  • Allocates time efficiently to the most important issues and completes work in a timely fashion
  • Holds high regard for personal performance and professional accountability
  • Adapts as needed to clients’ needs, feedback and critiques 
  • Can adjust and streamline priorities within multiple assignments to ensure all goals and objects are met or exceeded
