Global Footwear Product Creation, Product Development

The first spark of a product idea sets the Nike, Inc. Footwear Product Creation team into motion. The team of footwear developers, testers, engineers and designers strive for product excellence. They obsess over shoes, while collaborating, ideating and refining the product's construction, fit and style. They use groundbreaking advancements in technology and sustainable design to accelerate innovation. And they work lockstep with Merchandising, Design, Manufacturing and others to produce the final result: products that reflect the soul of sport and inspire athletes to reach new levels of performance.
Will be responsible for disrupting and inventing methods of footwear making to ensure that athletes are served with the best product that can be produced quickly, affordably and sustainably in Beaverton, OR. Will leverage expert level footwear making knowledge, combined with break-through technologies and processes to create the future of footwear manufacturing. Will utilize industry expertise spanning end-to-end product creation from a blank page, raw design, concept innovation, and invention of new process and technology, including the application of divergent technologies. Will require mastery of all phases of footwear development and creation. Will review the limitations of technology, consider how to apply its capabilities, and how to "hack" the technology to create and invent new methods of footwear make. Will perform both scientific and technological investigation directed toward the acquisition of new knowledge and will utilize creativity to develop new and innovative solutions. Will apply learned knowledge to develop proof-of-concept prototypes; devise methods and tools for modeling, and analyze and develop products and services. Will have three to five direct subordinates. Will engage in 20 percent or less domestic and international travel.
Education: Bachelor's degree in industrial design, industrial engineering, product engineering, or manufacturing engineering. Will also accept no education
Experience: Bachelor's degree and eight years of overall progressive experience in footwear manufacturing with multiple types of footwear. Will also accept no education and 10 years of overall progressive experience in footwear manufacturing with multiple types of footwear.
6 years of experience: (1) industrial design, including translating sketches to manufactural pattern constructions; (2) industrial engineering, including optimizing machines and processes to improve profitability; (3) pattern engineering; (4) last making; (5) footwear prototyping; (6) project management; (7) process engineering; and (8) end to end innovation of footwear concepts.
